February - BOM #10
I designed this "Easy Pinwheel #10" block as a 1/4 block and it can be rotated to have a lot of different looks. I've also included a mirror image version of the block for an added variation. These blocks are shown in sample quilt tops used with both solid blocks and half square triangle blocks. This 1/4 block is made in one unit. I intended this unit to be 4.5" unsewn so the finished blocks are 8" sewn. But, feel free make the block any size you wish. If you are new to paper piecing - make this 6" sewn (6.5" unsewn) and your finished block will be 12" sewn.
Use a copy machine to adjust the size after you print out the block from these web pages.
An Example:
By putting 4 units (2 paper pieced + 2 half square triangle blocks) together you can make a final block that has a different look:

2 half square triangle block like this:
You can assemble them into larger
units that might look
like this:
Here is a quilt top from the above blocks:
And - If you need tips on quick ways to make half square triangle blocks - see this article.
Other ways to use these quarter blocks is to twist and turn them and not use them to form pinwheels or stars, but to use them as blocks themselves. This can result in some very interesting quilts. Here are some 1/4 sections:
These can be combined with solid blocks, too:
You'll see all the above and more arrangements used in the sample quilts.
