Nocturne DK

Warm Waffle Mitts

Designed by Cathy Campbell

Description:  The simple, slip-stitch waffle/honeycomb pattern adds extra, insulating warmth.  These mittens can be done on double-points or with a circular needle using the Magic Loop method.

Level:  Intermediate (working in the round, gusset increases, ssk and k2tog decreases)

Size:

Materials:

  • 2 balls Crystal Palace Nocturne DK (shown in 314 "Maple Leaf")
  • Crystal Palace Bamboo 6" Double-Pointed or 35" Circular (if using Magic Loop technique) Needles in US size 6, or size needed for gauge*
  • Yarn sewing needle

Gauge:  5½ sts=1" over Waffle Pattern

Abbreviations:  beg- beginning; BO- bind off; CO- cast on; dpn- double-pointed needle;  k- knit; k2tog- knit 2 together; p- purl; psso- pass the slipped stitch over; pu- pick up; rep- repeat; rnd- round; sl- slip; ssk- slip, slip, knit; St(s)- Stitch(es); x- times; wyif- with yarn in front

Please note:  This pattern is written for double-pointed needles, but Magic Loop technique can be substituted.  I found that I knitted more tightly using the Magic Loop technique than I did using double points.  Keep this in mind when choosing needle for pattern gauge.
