Slipped Honeycomb Stitch Cowl

Description:  This cowl is worked alternating a knit round and a slip-stitch round that creates a soft, waffly fabric that is comfortable and insulating, perfect for chilly or downright cold fall and winter days.

Level:  Easy (working in the round, knit, purl, slip stitches)

Size:  6.5" (11") high x 23" circumference


  • 1 (2) skeins Crystal Palace Allegro DK (shown in 314 "Maple Leaf")
  • Crystal Palace Bamboo 26" Circular Needle in US size 9, or size needed for gauge
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker

Gauge:  4.5 sts=1" over Slipped Honeycomb Stitch

Abbreviations:  CO- cast on; k- knit; ndl- needle; p- purl; rnd- round; sl- slip; st(s)- stitch(es); wyif- with yarn in front



CO 124 sts.  Place marker to mark beginning of rnd.  Join, being careful not to twist sts. 


Begin Pattern:

Rnd 1:  K.

Rnd 2:  (P1, sl 1wyif) around.

Rnd 3:  K.

Rnd 4:  (Sl 1 wyif, p1) around


Repeat these 4 rnds until piece measures 6.5" (11"). 


Bind off as follows:  K2, *pass 1st over 2nd st but leave the passed st on ndl, k1 into next st, sl both sts off ndl, rep from * to end of rnd.

(Note: This bind off produces a more elastic edge than your basic bind off.)


Weave in all ends and enjoy!
