Description:  This baby hat is worked in seed stitch and stockinette stitch, with decorative decreases and I-cord knot.  Pair it up with the matching Bambino Sweater for a super cute set.

Level:  Easy/Intermediate (working in the rnd, seed st, double-decreasing, I-cord)

Size:  Up to 6-9 months – about 15” circumference


Gauge:  4 ½ sts = 1” in stockinette stitch on larger needles


Abbreviations:  BO- Bind Off; Beg: Beginning; CO- Cast On; K- Knit; K2tog- Knit 2 together; M 1- Make 1; rnd- round RS- Right Side; Rep- Repeat; Sl- Slip; SSK- Slip, Slip, Knit; St(s)- Stitch(es); St St- Stockinette Stitch – K the right side rows and P the wrong side rows; WS- Wrong Side; YO- Yarn over


Dbl Dec: Double Decrease – sl 2 sts together as if to K them together, K next st, then pass the 2 slipped sts over this st.



With smaller circular needle, CO 68 sts. Join into a circle, being careful not to twist your sts.


Rnd 1: * K 1, P 1, rep from * to end of round.

Rnd 2: * P 1, K 1, rep from * to end of round.


Repeat these two rounds until piece measures 1½”.


Change to larger needles and work in St St for 3”.


Shape crown: Change to double pointed needles.

Rnd 1: * K 7, dbl dec, K 7, rep from * 3 times more.

Rnd 2 and all even numbered rounds: K

Rnd 3: * K 6, dbl dec, K 6, rep from * 3 times more.

Rnd 5: * K 5, dbl dec, K 5, rep from * 3 times more.

Rnd 7: * K 4, dbl dec, K 4, rep from * 3 times more.

Rnd 9: * K 3, dbl dec, K 3, rep from * 3 times more.

Rnd 11: * K 2, dbl dec, K 2, rep from * 3 times more.

Rnd 13: * K 1, dbl dec, K 1, rep from * 3 times more.

Rnd 15: Dbl dec 4 times – 4 sts remain.


Transfer these sts to one needle and work knitted cord as follows: * K 4 sts. Do not turn. Slide sts back to other end of needle, draw yarn across back of sts, and rep from *.

When cord measures 2”, break yarn and draw through all sts. Pull tight and fasten off. Tie an overhand knot in the cord.
