Description: This soft, cozy and colorful stole is constructed of knitted mitered squares in slow-striping Mochi Plus. It comes in two lengths and can also be converted to a scarf by working only one long panel, omitting 3-needle bind-off and working border around. Make four panels for a fantastic throw!
Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate (double decreasing, eyelets, mitered constructions, 3-needle bind-off.
Size: Stole = 18" x 54” or 18" x 70” (Scarf = 9" x 54" or 9" x 70")
Materials:
Gauge: 4 sts=1" over St st
Abbreviations: k- knit; k2tog- knit 2 together; p- purl; sk2p- slip 1, knit 2 together, pass slip stitch over the knit 2 together (2 stitches have been decreased); sl- slip; St(s)- Stitch(es); St st- stockinette stitch (k the right side rows and p the wrong side rows); tbl- through the back loop; WS- wrong side; yo- yarn over
3-Needle Bind-Off: Place pieces, RS together with needles parallel. Using tip of third needle, BO together by knitting through first st on both needles.
INSTRUCTIONS
Using 16” circular needle, (cast on 33 sts, place marker) four times – 132 sts. Join, taking care not to twist sts.
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: *K1, K2 tog, K to 2 sts before markers, K2 tog tbl, sl marker*. Repeat between * 3 times more – 31 sts between ea set of markers.
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: Repeat row 2 – 29 sts between markers
Row 5: Knit
Row 6: *K1, K2 tog, (yo, K2 tog) to 2 sts before marker, K2 tog tbl, sl marker* Repeat between * 3 times more – 27 sts
Row 7: Knit
Row 8: Repeat row 2 – 25 sts
Row 9: Purl
Row 10: Repeat row 2 – 23 sts
Row 11: Purl
Row 12: Repeat row 2 – 21 sts
Row 13: Knit
Row 14: Repeat row 6 – 19 sts
Row 15: Knit
Row 16: Repeat row 2 – 17 sts
Row 17: Purl
Row 18: Repeat row 2 – 15 sts
Row 19: Purl
Row 20: Repeat row 2 – 13 sts
Row 21: Knit
Row 22: Repeat row 6 – 11 sts
Row 23: Knit
Row 24: Repeat row 2 – 9 sts
Row 25: Purl
Row 26: Repeat rowe 2 – 7 sts
Row 27: Purl
Row 28: Repeat row 2 – 5 sts
Row 29: Knit
Row 30: *K1, sk2p, K1*. Repeat between * around – 3 sts between markers
Cut yarn, leaving a 10” tail. Thread onto tapestry needle and pull through remaining loops.
Pull up firmly and fasten off.
Second and following squares:
Using 16” needle, (cast on 33 sts, place marker) 3 times, pick up and knit 33 sts along one side of first square. Join, taking care not to twist sts and complete as for first square.
Continue adding squares in this manner until 6 (8) squares have been knitted.
Make a second panel in the same manner. (For Scarf, only do one panel and skip to " Border.")
Joining: Using one 55” needle and with right side facing, pick up and knit one st in each cast-on stitch on long side of one panel. Using a second 55” needle, pick up and knit along second panel in same manner. Place right sides together and using one dp needle, join with 3-needle bind off.
Border: Using 55” needle and with right side facing, pick up and knit one st in each cast-on st on long side of stole. Knit one row. Bind off loosely.
Work same border on second side of stole.
Pick up and knit one st in end of row and each cast-on st on short sides of stole. Knit 6 rows.
Bind off loosely.
