Cuff: Using US 1.5 (2.5mm needles), loosely cast on 64 sts. Join, being careful not to
twist the stitches. Place marker to indicate beginning of round. Work k2p2
ribbing for 1".
Hemmed Picot Cuff (optional): Using a provisional cast on with waste yarn and
2.5mm needles, cast on 64 sts. Change to regular yarn. You will be knitting
circularly.
rnds 1-5: k (remember to pm to mark beginning of rnd)
rnd 6 (fold line): *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to end
rnds 7-11: k
Remove waste thread and place stitches onto a spare set of needles. Fold at rnd
6 so purl sides are facing each other (cast-on row is in the back). You will now
knit one stitch from working needle and one stitch from the spare needle
together. Repeat around. (64 sts)
Leg: Using US size 1 (2.25 mm) needles, k7, [ssk, k14] 3 times,
ssk, k7 (60 sts).
Work in pattern for leg until leg is 5.5" (or desired length);
ending on round 5 or 11 of pattern.
To center pattern over instep: Knit 15 sts; pm (beginning of
instep); knit 29 sts; pm (beginning of heel flap); knit 31 sts (these include
the 15 sts knitted at the beginning of round). (29 sts instep/31 sts heel).
Turn.
Set-up row for heel (wrong side):
sl 1, p10, m1 (by lifting
bar between sts and p through back loop), p10, m1, p10 (33 sts)
Heel: will be worked over 33 sts. Place remaining 29
sts on a holder for instep. Heel flap is worked back and forth.
row 1: sl 1, *k1, sl 1; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, k2.
row 2: sl 1, p across.
Repeat rows 1-2 until heel flap measures 2.5 inches or desired length, ending
with row 1.
Turn heel: Rounder Heel
row 1 (ws): sl 1, p 19, p2tog, p1, turn
row 2: sl 1, k 8, ssk, k1, turn
row 3: sl 1, p 9, p2tog, p1, turn
row 4: sl 1, k 10, ssk, k1, turn
Continue working one more stitch until all the stitches have been worked. You
should end on a knit row (21 sts remaining). Do not turn work. Begin gusset.
Gusset: Pick up and knit one
stitch in each slipped stitch along side of heel. Place marker for gusset.
Knit
29 stitches in pattern for instep. Place marker for gusset. Pick up and knit
same number of stitches along remaining side of heel. Knit 10 stitches and place
marker.
The beginning of the round is now the middle of the heel flap.
rnd 1: round 2: Knit around as
established [instep in pattern (important: see note below), sole in
stockinette].
rnd 2 (decrease round): Knit to last 3 stitches before marker (gusset),
k2tog, k1. Knit instep stitches in pattern for instep as established to marker.
Slip marker, k1, ssk, knit to end of round.
rnd 3: Knit around as established (instep in pattern, sole in
stockinette).
(Note: if leg ended on round 11, begin on round 1 of pattern for instep.
if leg ended on round 5, begin on round 7 of pattern for instep)
Repeat rounds 2-3 until 33 sts remain on sole. (# instep sts will vary/33 sts
sole)
Foot: Continue working as established (pattern stitches
on instep and stockinette on the sole) until foot measures about 2” less than
desired foot length, ending on rnd 1,5, 7 or 11 of pattern stitch.
Set-up round for toe:
rnd 1: Knit sole sts, slip marker. Knit instep stitches while evenly increasing
by 2 sts. Slip marker, knit to end of round. (31 sts instep/ 33 sts sole)
rnd 2: Knit to last stitch before marker, pm (new beginning of round). Last
stitch from sole now becomes first stitch of instep. Knit to end of round. (32
sts instep/ 32 sts sole)
Knit even until foot measures 1 3/4" less than desired foot length. Begin toe.
Toe: (decreases begin on instep
stitches)
