Maizy Women's Twisted Rib Cable Socks

For Crystal Palace Yarns

Materials
2 - 50 gr balls Maizy (82% corn fiber - 18% elastic nylon)
[Note: There is a men's version of this same pattern HERE that uses 3 balls]
Crystal Palace DPN Needles #1.5 US [2.5 mm] set of 5
Maizy color used in sample socks: #1001 "night shades"

Small cable needle or an extra DPN
Stitch Marker or loop of contrasting yarn

Yarn Note: This pattern will work well for any of the Panda sock yarn series, we will be showing a version soon knit in our newest Panda Soy yarn coming for Fall 2008! We will put the photo on this page when it is ready.

Gauge: 8 sts per inch over St st

Size: Ladies’ medium sock

Abbreviations:
BOR: beginning of round; cont: continue; CO: cast on; K2 tog: knit 2 together; N1: Needle 1; N2: Needle 2; N3: Needle 3; N4: Needle 4; patt: pattern; PU: pick up; rem: remain(ing); rep: repeat; Sl1: slip 1; SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit; St st: stockinette stitch

Twisted Rib uses a 6 st Left Cable consisting of slipping 3 sts onto the cable needle (CN) and holding to the front. Knit the next 3 stitches; then knit the 3 stitches from the CN.

Twisted Rib Pattern:
Rows 1 & 2
- P1, K6, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker.
Row 3 - P1, LC, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker.
Rows 4 thru 13 - P1, K6, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker.
Row 14 - P1, K6, P2, LC, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker.
Rows 15 thru 24 - P1, K6, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker.
Row 25 - P1, LC, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker.

Completed pattern

Rows 1 - 25 is approximately 2 inches. K patt 3X for 6 inch cuff, K patt 4X for 8 inch cuff, K patt 5X for 10 inch cuff.

Begin Leg:
CO on 64 sts over 4 needles having 20 sts on each needle. Join in a ring being careful not to twist. Mark join as beginning of the round (BOR). K in patt for desired cuff length.

Begin Heel:
NOTE:
Heel is worked in rows on 32 sts.

Heel Pattern:
Row 1: Sl 1, K across
Row 2: Sl 1, P across
Knit in heel patt until 32 heel flap rows. Heel flap shape should be close to square. End with a P row.

Turn Heel as follows:

Row 1:
Sl 1, K17 sts, K2 tog, K1 turn
Row 2: Sl 1, P5 sts, P2 tog, P1, turn
Row 3: Sl 1, K6, K2 tog, K1, turn
Row 4: Sl 1, P7, P2 tog, P1, turn
Rep rows 3 & 4, increasing 1 additional K or P st after the Sl 1 until all side sts are consumed. End with a P row.

Gusset:
K to the center of heel. Using a spare DP needle, K across rem heel sts. PU and K 16 sts from side of heel flap and K one st in the gusset corner (N 1). Knit across needles 2 and 3. With needle 4 pick up and knit one stitch in the gusset corner and then pick up and knit 16 stitches from the side of the heel flap. Knit the remaining heel stitches.
Stitch count is (26, 16, 16, 26) respectively.
Gusset Decrease:
Rnd 1:

N 1: K until the last 3 stitches, K2 tog, k1.
N 2 and 3: Work in pattern around.
N 4: K1, SSK, K around.

Rnd 2:
K around. Rep these 2 rounds until total sts equal 64. Transfer sts as necessary so that you have returned to original st placement. (16, 16, 16, 16).

Sock Foot:
Cont knitting in St st until approximately 1.5 - 2 inches from the tip of longest toe.
Shape Toe:
Rnd 1:
N 1: K until last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1
N 2: K1, SSK, K around.
N 3: Knit until last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1
N 4: K1, SSK, K around.
Rnd 2: K around
Cont in this manner until approximately 24 (32,36) sts rem or until sock has desired toe shape. Place the 12 sts for pointed toe (16 regular toe,18 round toe) sts of top of foot on one needle and place 12(16, 18) sts of bottom of foot on another needle. Kitchener toe closed.
