Sizes: S (M, L, XL)
This is a close fitting garment
Fits bust size: 34 (36, 38, 40)
Finished Measurements:
55 (57, 59, 61) from cuff to cuff and 14 (15 Ό, 16 ½, 17 ½) tall at center
back including rib trim
Materials:
6 (7, 8, 9) 50 gr. Balls;
Merino 5 superwash merino wool,
#5204 "natural", Crystal Palace Yarns
Needles:
US Size 6 (4mm), 7 (4.5mm) and 8 (5 mm) 14 straight and US
Size 6 (4mm) 35 circular or size needed to obtain gauge.
Note: You may knit back and forth on the circular needles for the cuff.
Gauge:
18 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches in Double Lace Rib pattern using
Size 8 needles, blocked and slightly stretch to open pattern.
26 sts and 35 rows =4 in Ridged Rib using size 6 needles
Abbreviations CO-Cast On; BO-Bind Off; k-knit;
k2tog-tbl-knit 2 stitches; meas-measures; rep-repeat; RS-right side; Rnd- round;
St(s)-stitch (es); YO-yarn over; WS-wrong side.
Cuff
Note: Shrug is worked from cuff to cuff.
Using size 6 needles CO 56 (62, 68, 74) sts. Work Ridged Rib as follows:
Ridged Rib Pattern
(Multiple of 2)
Row 1 (RS): Knit
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: *K1, p1; repeat from * to end of row
Row 4: Work same as Row 3
Work Rows 1-4, 7 times; repeat rows 1 & 2 once more; (a total of 30 rows).
(Measures approximately 3 ½)
Sleeve
Begin lace pattern as follows:
Double Lace Rib
(Multiple of 6 +2)
Row 1 (right side): K2 *p1, YO, k2tog-tbl, p1, k2; rep from * to end
Row 2: P2, *k1, p2; rep from * to end
Row 3: K2, *p1, k2tog, YO, p1, k2; rep from * to end.
Row 4: Work same as Row 2
Repeat these 4 rows until piece meas 6 (6 ½, 7, 7 ½) from CO edge.
Change to size 7 needles; continue to work the Double Lace Rib, until piece meas
11 (11 ½, 12, 12 ½) CO edge.
Change to size 8 needles; continue to work the Double Lace Rib, until piece meas
17, (17 ½, 18, 18 ½) from CO edge. Place markers at each end for sleeve seam
placement
Body
Continue to work in Lace Rib until piece meas 21 (22, 23,
24) from markers. Place marker at each end for sleeve seam placement.
Sleeve
Continue to work Double Lace Rib, until sleeve measures 6 from last set of
markers.
Change to size 7 needles; continue to work in Lace Rib until sleeve measures 11
from last set of markers.
Change to size 6 needles; continue to work Lace Rib until sleeve measures 13 ½,
(14, 14 ½, 15) from last set of markers, end after working row 4.
Cuff
Work Ridged Rib as follows
Ridged Rib
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: *K1, p1; repeat from * to end of row
Row 4: Work same as Row 3
Work rows 1-4, 7 times; repeat rows 1 and 2 once more for a total of 30 rows.
Sleeve will measure 17, (17 ½, 18, 18 ½) from last set of markers. Break off
yarn and with out turning youre your work (the RS is still facing); beginning
at the end of the row just completed, slide stitches onto the needle that not in
use (if you knit back and forth on circular needles, slide the stitches to the
other end of the needles), rejoin yarn at the right hand side of the piece. BO
in purl on the RS. This will closely match the CO edge.
Finishing
Sew each sleeve seam from cuff to sleeve marker. Work band.
Band
Using size 6 circular needles, RS facing. Begin at sleeve
seam, pick up 1 st in seam, pick up 105 (110, 115, 120) sts to next sleeve seam,
pick up 1 st in seam, pick up 105 (110, 115, 120) sts to next sleeve seam [212
(222, 232, 242)] sts. Note: You will be picking up approximately 5 sts for every
6 sts around the inside opening of the shrug. Work Ridged Rib in the round as
follows:

(Multiple of 2)
Rnd 1: Knit
Rnd 2: Purl
Rnd 3: * K1, p1; rep from *
Rnd 4: Work same as Rnd 3
Work Rnds 1-4, 3 times; repeat rnds 1and 2 once more. (a total of 14 rnds). Turn
work so the WS is facing, BO in knit, (binding off on the WS will match the cast
on and bind off rows of the cuff). Fasten off. Work in ends. Block.
