Gauge:
14 sts and 19 rows = 4 inches, Stockinette st, using size 10.5
needles
21 sts and 21 rows = 4 inches in cable pattern.
For correct sizing and fabric weight - be sure to work a gauge swatch.
Some knitters may need to use a 10-3/4 (7mm) size needle to get gauge,
note that Crystal Palace needles come in this size.
Row gauge is important for this pattern since the shrug is worked cuff-to-cuff.
Abbreviations: beg-beginning; BO-bind off; CO-cast on; Dec-decrease; Inc-increase; patt-pattern; PU-pick up; rem-remaining; RS-right side; st(s)-stitch(es); St st-Stockinette stitch; WS-wrong side.

Stitches Used:
1. Stockinette St; (St st) knit on RS, purl on WS
2. Rev. Stockinette St (Rev St st) purl on RS, knit on WS
(worked as background to the 3 x 3 cables)
3. 2/2 Seed St
4. Cable 1: 3 x 3 sts
5. Cable 2: 3 sts x 1 st
6. Bobble
The Bobble is shown in chart as a single gray square
and charted at bottom of chart. It is worked into a single P st indicated as
follows:
Row 1 (RS, worked in one stitch) : K1, YO, K1 (turn)
Row 2 (WS): P3 (turn)
Row 3: K3 (turn)
Row 4: P3 (turn)
Row 5: K3 tog
The 3 x 3 Stitches Cable (worked over 6 sts)
This cable is worked in the same left direction throughout the shrug.
It is a 3 left sts crossed over the top of 3 base stitches.
To work the 3 x 3 cable over 6 sts, place 3 sts on cable needle and hold in
front of work. Knit the next 3 sts, then knit the 3 sts from cable needle.
The 3 x 1 Stitch Cable, both left and right crosses
(worked over 4 sts)
Cross to Left: To work, place 3 sts on cable needle and hold at
front of work, K 1 st from left needle, then K the 3 sts from cable needle.
Cross to Right: To work, place 1 st on cable needle, hold to back
of work, K the next 3 sts from left needle, then K the st from cable needle.
Instructions
Left Sleeve: CO 46 (50, 56) sts. Work 2 rows St st.
Knit 5 (7, 10) sts; work 36 sts from Chart beginning at row 1(these 36 sts will
be worked in the chart throughout), knit 5 (7, 10) sts st., AT THE SAME TIME
Keeping the sts on each side of chart sts in St st Increase 1 st at each end
every 8 (10, 10) rows 8 times —62 (66, 72) sts Work even until 72 (88, 88) rows
of chart have been worked. [2 1/2 (3, 3) cable motifs have been worked].
Place marker at beg and end of row.
Body: Continue to work even in patt as established until a total of 6 1/2 (7, 7) cable motifs have been worked. Place marker at beg and end of next row. Work 8 rows even from marker.
Right Sleeve: Dec 1 st at each end; then every 8 (10, 10) rows 7 times. —46 (50, 56) sts. Work even until a total of 9 (10, 10) cable motifs have been worked. Knit 1 row. BO all sts.
Collar/Band: (Picked up and worked on both sides, 2
sections)
RS facing PU 78 (82, 82) sts between markers at body.
Row 1: K2 *P2, K2; rep from *
Row 2: P2, *K2, P2; rep from *
Repeat these 2 rows for 7 (7, 71/2)”. Bind off all sts in rib loosely.
Repeat for other side of body. Working rows as follow:
Row 1: P2, *K2, P2; rep from *
Row 2: K2 *P2, K2; rep from *
Finishing: Fold shrug in half lengthwise. Sew sleeve seams from cuff to marker.
Do not fasten off.
Turn piece to RS and sew collar seams A to A and B to B (the seams will be hidden
when the collar is folded back).
Work in all ends.
