Irish Knit Poncho
Materials:
8 - 50 gr skeins Crystal Palace
Merino 5
Superwash;
4.5-5 sts/inch in St st
Size 7 needles for Merino 5, 5 sts/in on size 8 needles,
4.5 sts/in.
Cable needle
Measurements:
Width of each piece before sewing will be approx.
20" for the 5 sts/in gauge and 23" for the 4.5 sts/inch.
Length will be 28"-30" for both.

K - knit; P - purl; beg - beginning; bet - between;
inc - increase(ing); rep - repeat; tog - together; st(s)

First Piece:
Cast on 103 sts.
Row 1-5: * K 1, P 1 * rep to end. Rep this row 4
times, inc 1 st in 8th st from end of fifth row (seed st border) = 104 sts.
Row 6: (Right side) Work seed st over 7 sts; P1, K1, P2; *CABLE: slip next 3 sts to cable needle, hold at back of work, K next st, K3 from cable needle, K1, slip next st to cable needle at front, K next 3 sts, K st from cable needle; * P2: rep cable pattern bet *'s; P2, K1, P36, K1, P2 rep cable pattern bet *'s; P2, rep cable pattern bet *'s; P2, K1, P1; seed st over 7 sts.
Row 7: Seed st over 7 sts; K1, P1, K2, P9, K2, P9, K2, P1; * inc 3 sts in next st by K1, P1, K1 into front/back/front of st (makes 3 sts from 1 st), P3 tog *; rep bet *'s 8 times; P1, K2, P9, K2, P9, K2, P1, K1; seed st to end.
Row 8: Seed st over 7 sts, P1, K1, P2, K9, P2, K9, P2, K1, P36, K1, P2, K9, P2, K9, P2, K1, P1; seed st to end.
Row 9: Seed st over 7 sts; K1, P1, K2, P9, K2, P9, K2, P1 * P3 sts tog. Work 3 sts in next st; rep bet *'s 8 times, P1, K2, P9, K2, P9, K2, P1, K1; seed st to end.
REPEAT rows 6 – 9 to approximate 27" for 5 sts/in gauge piece or 29" for 4.5 sts/in piece from beg, ending with row 6.
Next Row: Work K1-P1 for seed st as at beg, dec 1 st to keep pattern correct at end. Work 4 more rows seed st. Bind off in pattern.
Second Piece: Work in same way.
Finishing:
Block lightly.
Sew together as shown in diagram. Put fringe (using three 8" pieces held
together) every few stitches or 1/4” apart.
