Finished Chest Measurements:
35 ¾ (39 ½, 43 ¼, 46, 50 ¾)”

7 (9, 9, 10, 11) - 50 gr. balls

Bamboo or DAISY Needles US size 9
(5.5 mm) straight and 7 (4.5mm) 26”-29" circular
2 Stitch holders for neck
Abbreviations:
BO-bind off; beg - begin (ning), CO-cast on; k-knit; PU-pick up; p-purl;
rep-repeat; RS-right side; rnd-round; St(s)-stitch (es); WS-wrong side; yb-yarn
back; yf-yarn forward.
Gauge:
17 sts and 31 rows = 4” in Medallion Rib Stitch slightly stretched and blocked
For correct sizing, be sure to do a gauge swatch. The stitch gauge is more
important than the row gauge if you cannot match both.
Back
Using Size 9 needles, CO 76 (84, 92, 100, 108) sts. Begin working in pattern as follows:
Medallion Rib: (Multiple of 8 +4)
Row 1(RS): P4 *yb, sl2 purlwise, knit into back of 2nd st on left needle, then knit the first stitch, slip both stitches from the needle at the same time, p4; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: K4, *yf, sl2 purlwise, purl the 2nd st on left-hand needle, then purl the first stitch slip both sts from needle at the same time, k4; rep from * to end of row.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: Purl.
Repeat these 4 rows until piece measures 13 ½ (13 ½, 14, 14, 14 ½)” from beg, or desired length to underarm. BO 4 (4, 5, 5, 5) sts beg next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st at each end of every other row 4 (7, 11, 12, 14) times. [60 (62, 64, 66, 70)] sts remain.
Note: Work all decreased stitches into pattern as established; discontinue twisted stitch, or the 2 slipped sts when these sts fall directly on the edge.
Work until armhole measures 7 ½ (8, 8 ½, 8 ½, 9)”, end after working row 2 of pattern. Shape Neck and Shoulders
Working both sides at the same time, work 15 (16, 16, 17, 18) sts, slip 30 (30, 32, 32, 34) sts to holder, join 2nd ball work remaining sts. Each side will have 15 (16, 16, 17, 18) sts for the shoulders. Decrease 1 st at neck edge every row until 13 (13, 13, 14, 15) sts remain for each shoulder. Work even if necessary until armhole meas 8 (8.5, 9, 9, 9.5)”, end after working row 2 of pattern. Bind off.
Front
Work same as for back, until armhole measures 3 ½ (3 ½, 4, 4, 4 ½)”. End after
working row 2 of pattern.
Shape Neck and Shoulders
Work both sides at the same time. Work 25 (25, 26, 27, 28) sts. Slip the next 10
(12, 12, 12, 14) sts to holder, work remaining sts. Decrease 1 st at neck edge
every row 6 times, then decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 6 (6, 7, 7,
7) times, until 13 (13, 13, 14, 15) sts remain for each shoulder. Work even
until armhole measures 8 (8.5, 9, 9, 9.5)”, end after working row 2 of pattern.
Bind off.
Finishing
Sew shoulder seams. Work neckband. Work armbands. Sew side seams, mattress
stitch works well for this piece. Weave in ends. Block vest; lightly steam seams
so they lay flat.
Neckband
Using size 7 circular needles, RS facing, beg at right at shoulder seam; PU 3
sts from back neck edge, 30 (30, 32, 32, 34) sts from back neck stitch holder, 3
sts from left back neck edge, 32 (33, 34, 35, 35) sts from left front neck edge,
10 (12, 12, 12, 14) sts from front neck stitch holder, and 32 (33, 34, 35, 35)
sts from right front neck edge. [110 (112, 118, 120, 124)] sts. Join into round.
Work 3 rounds as follows:
Garter Stitch in the Round
Rnd 1 & 3: Purl
Rnd 2: Knit
Bind off in purl
Armband
Using size 7 circular needles (you will be working back and forth in rows) RS
facing, beg at underarm seam, PU 90 (90, 94, 94, 98) sts. Knit 3 rows. Bind off.
Repeat for other armhole.
