Description: Will you be my Valentine? Our hearts are joined in this “concentric hearts” motif… each inside the other in loving warmth. In addition, the Left-Twist Rib intertwines stitches to symbolize togetherness. Knit a "Valentine" for someone you love today.

Designer’s note: Using dpn a size or two smaller for the crown decreases will help to give a nice finished look without altering the fit.

Gauge: 5.25 st/inch (21 st/10 cm) over St st
INSTRUCTIONS
With #7 short circ and MC, CO 96 (108) st. Join, being
careful not to twist.
Place marker to indicate BOR. Using MC, work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 rnds.
Begin ‘Twisty Rib’:
Rnd 1: (LT, P2) around.
Rnd 2: (K2, P2) around.
Designer’s notes: To work the LT – K2tog & keep the stitch made on the left needle. Now K into the 1st st on the left needle, and move both stitches to right needle. Left Twist made.
Work in Twisty rib for 2 (2.5)" or desired length.
Begin Heart Motif:
Follow Chart and use the Intarsia method.
Remember to carry the MC yarn loosely across.
Designer’s Note: You will work CC on heart section only. Use ~3-5 ft lengths of the CC yarn; cut as necessary, leaving at least ~6" ends so they can be safely ‘tucked in’ later. Don't be afraid to have many ends to weave in!
Next Rnd: Work Twisty Rib over 20 sts, PM, work chart over 21 sts, PM, K1,
work Twisty Rib to end.
Next Rnd: Work Twisty Rib over 20 sts, SM, work chart over 21 sts, SM, K1,
work Twisty Rib to end.
Continue to repeat last rnd until chart is complete. (Chart=21 sts wide by 22 sts high)

Work 1 rnd (k2, p2) around, removing markers.
Work Twisty Rib across all the stitches.
When hat is ~5 (6)" from cast-on edge, ending with a Rnd 1 of Twisty
Rib, begin crown shaping.
Crown Shaping:
Be prepared to change to dpn (smaller size)
as the stitch count decreases.
Dec Rnd 1: (K2, P2tog), around. [72 (81) sts rem]
Work 1 rnd as (LT,
P1) around.
Work 1 rnd as (K2, P1) around.
Work 1 rnd as (LT,
P1) around.
Dec Rnd 2: (K2tog, P1), around. [48 (54) sts rem]
Work 2 rnds as (K1, P1) around.
Work 1 rnd as (LT,
P1) around.
Work 1 rnd as (K2, P1) around.
Dec Rnd 3: (K2tog, K1) around. [32 (36) sts rem]
Work 1 rnd of LT
around.
Work one rnd of K over all sts.
Dec Rnd 4: (LT, K2tog) around. [24 (27) sts rem]
Work 1 rnd of (K2, P1) around.
Dec Rnd 5: (K2tog, P1) around. [16 (18) sts rem]
Work 1 rnd of (K1, P1) around.
Final Rnd: K2tog until only 6 (8) sts remain.
Finishing:
Cut yarn, leaving an ~8 in end. Using a
crochet hook or yarn sewing needle, pull end through each st, one at a time, and drop off needle.
Pull snugly and bring end to inside. Finish other ends, working each
through several sts diagonally on inside.
Block gently.
