Description: I am a big fan of the 1920's cloche; it adds a certain "Je ne sais quoi" to an outfit. This pattern uses basic single crochet stitches, increasing and decreasing. Pair this with the Merino 5 Crocheted Fingerless Gloves for a super stylish look!

Materials:
Gauge: 4 sc and 4½ rows = 1"
Abbreviations: beg- beginning; ch- chain; dc- double crochet; dec- decrease (insert hook into sc and pull loop through, insert hook into next sc and pull loop through, wrap yarn around hook and pull loop through all 3 loops on hook); hdc- half double crochet; rem- remaining; rnd- round; sc- single crochet; sl st- slip stitch; st(s)- stitches
INSTRUCTIONS
Ch 4. Join with sl st in 1st ch to form ring.
Rnd 1: Work 12 sc in ring. Do NOT join with a sl st. PM to
mark beg of rnd.
(Note: You will move the stitch marker to mark beg of each new
rnd.)
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc. [24 sc]
Rnd 3: Work sc in each sc.
Rnd 4: *Work sc in next sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from * to end of
rnd. [36 sc]
Rnd 5: Work sc in each sc.
Rnd 6: *Work sc in each of next 2 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from *
to end of rnd. [48 sc]
Rnds 7 & 8: Work sc in each sc.
Rnd 9: *Work sc in each of next 3 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from *
to end of rnd. [60 sc]
Rnds 10 & 11: Work sc in each sc.
Rnd 12: *Work sc in each of next 4 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from *
to end of rnd. [72 sc]
Rnds 13 & 14: Work sc in each sc.
Rnd 15: *Work sc in each of next 8 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from *
to end of rnd. [80 sc]
Continue to work sc in each sc until piece measures 6½" from beg.
Dec Rnd: *Work sc in each of next 18 sc, dec in next 2 sc; rep form *
to end of rnd. [76 sc]
Next 2 rnds: Work sc in each sc.
Dec Rnd: *Work sc in each of next 17 sc, dec in next 2 sc; rep form *
to end of rnd. [72 sc]
Next 2 rnds: Work sc in each sc.
Inc Rnd: *Work sc in each of next 8 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from
* to end of rnd. [80 sc]
Next 2rnds: Work sc in each sc.
Inc Rnd: *Work sc in each of next 9 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from
* to end of rnd. [88 sc]
Next 2 rnds: Work sc in each sc.
Inc Rnd: *Work sc in each of next 10 sc, work 2 sc in next sc; rep from
* to end of rnd. [96 sc]
Next rnd: Work sc in each sc.
At the end of this rnd, sl st on next st, turn.
Work one rnd sc.
Fasten off. Weave in ends. Sew up side of hat as shown. Add optional flower.
Flower (optional):
Ch 6. Join with sl st in 1st ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Work 12 sc in ring. Join rnd with a sl st.
Rnd 2: *Ch 3, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc; repeat from * to end of rnd. (6 loops
made)
Rnd 3: *Work (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc) in space made by loop; rep
from * to end of rnd.
Join rnd with sl st. (6 petals made)
Fasten off. Sew flower to turned up brim as shown. Sew
one of each size button in center with the larger one underneath.
(Larger
button should overlap the first rnd of flower.)
Weave in ends.
