Materials:
4 - 50 gr. balls Sausalito #8120 Borealis
Size F crochet hook

Size: 20" x 48" after blockin

Gauge: 4 shells = 9.5"across, 4.5" vertical

Crochet Stitches Used:
Shell: 9 trc in same space or stitch
V-Stitch: trc, ch 1, trc in same st or space

Instructions
Ch 274 loosely, turn.
Note that with every repeat of rows 3 and 4 there will be 2 less shells on the row.

1 - Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 3 ch, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in each of next 4 ch*. Repeat
Bet * to last ch, dc in last ch. (53 ch-1 spaces)

2 - Ch 1, turn. Sc in first dc, *shell in next ch-1 space, sc in next ch-1 space.* Rep
Bet * across, ending last shell sc in top of turning ch. (27 shells)

3 - Turn, sl st in first sc, sl st across first 5 trc of shell, ch 1, sc in next dc, *ch 4, V st in next sc, ch 4, sc in center of next shell.*

4 - Turn, sl st in first sc and across 4 ch, (sl st, ch 1, sc) in next V st, *Shell in next sc, sc in next V st*.
Rep bet * across. Turn. There will be 2 less shells than on the previous row throughout.

Rep rows 3 and 4, having 2 shells less on each row, until 1 shell remains. Fasten off

Top Border: These directions will make the top border curve upward at both ends for a better fit
around the shoulders.

1 - With wrong side facing, join yarn with sl st to ch st at base of first dc, ch1, sc in same place,
*ch 3, sc in next ch-1 space*, ending ch 3, sc in base of last dc.

2 - Ch 2 turn. Work 3hdc in each ch-3 space across, ending hdc in last sc.

3-4 - Ch 2, turn. Hdc in each hdc across. Fasten off.

Side Edging:

1 - With wrong side facing join yarn with sl st bottom of first dc of first row of shawl. Ch 1, sc in same place, *Ch 9, sc in center of next shell, ch 9, sc in top of V st.* Rep along both sides, ending sc in last sc following last shell.

2 - Ch 2, turn. Work 9 hdc in each ch-9 space, ending hdc in last sc.

3 - Turn. Sl st across 5 hdc, ch 1, sc in same place, *ch 9, sc in 5th hdc of next loop* to end.

4 - Rep row 2. Fasten off.
