Scallop Lace Hat & Fingerless Gloves

Two sizes: teen/small adult and adult

Materials
3 - 50 gr balls Crystal Palace Panda Silk DK
Crystal Palace Bamboo Circular Needles Size 3 and 6 - 16"
CPY 6" DP Bamboo Needles - Size 3
Stitch markers

Gauge: 22 sts = 4" in st. st.

HAT
Using smaller circular needle, CO 104 (110) sts. Join, taking care not to twist sts.
Work in K1-P1 ribbing for 2.5". Work inc row as follows:
Teen/Small adult size: (K2, m1) 4 times, (K3, m1) 32 times to end of rnd - 140 sts
Adult size: (K2, m1, K3, m1) to end of rnd - 154 sts
Cont as follows for both sizes - Change to larger needle & work 1 rnd even.

Begin pattern:
Rnd 1: *P1, ssk, K9, K2 tog* around
Rnd 2: *P1, K11* around
Rnd 3: *P1, ssk, K7, K2 tog* around
Rnd 4: *P1, K9* around
Rnd 5: *P1, ssk, yo, (K1, yo) 5 times, K2 tog* around
Rnd 6: P around
Rep these 6 rnds 3 (4) times more. Rep rnds 1 & 2 once more.
Next 3 rnds: *P1, K11* around
Next rnd: *P1, ssk, K7, K2 tog* around. Work 3 rnds even
Next rnd: *P1, ssk, K5, K2 tog* around. Work 3 rnds even

Change to size 3 DP needles (it is necessary to use smaller DP needles to keep sts firm at top.)
Next rnd: *P1, ssk, K3, K2 tog* around. Work 3 rnds even.
Next rnd: *P1, ssk, K1, K2 tog* around. Work 3 rnds even.
Next rnd: *P1, sl 1, K2 tog, psso* around. Work 3 rnds even.
Next rnd: K2 tog around. K 1 rnd. .

Cut yarn, leaving a 10" tail. Thread onto needle & draw thru remaining sts.
Pull firmly and fasten off.
Turn ribbing up and hem to inside of hat.

Fingerless Gloves - knitted flat
Using smaller needles, CO 45 (49) sts. Work in K1-P1 ribbing for 1". Change to larger needle. K one row, P one row. Begin pattern:

Right hand
Lace pattern:
Row 1: K4 (5), P1, ssk, K9, K2 tog, P1, K26 (29).
Row 2: P26 (29), K1, P11, K1, P4 (5).
Row 3: K4 (5), P1, ssk, K7, K2 tog, P1, K 26 (29).
Row 4: P26 (29), K1, P9, K1, P4 (5).
Row 5: K4 (5), P1, ssk, yo, (K1 yo) 5 times, K2 tog P1, K26 (29)
Row 6: P26 (29), K1, K13, K1, P4 (5).

Rep these 6 rows twice more. Begin thumb gusset:

Row 1:
K4 (5), P1, ssk, K9, K2 tog, P1, K4 (5), PM, K2, PM, K20 (22)
Row 2: P26 (29), K1, P11, K1, P4 (5).
Row 3: K4 (5), P1 ssk, K7, K2 tog, P1, K4 (5), sl marker, m1, K2, m1, sl marker, K 20 (22).
Row 4: P28 (31), K1, P9, K1 P4.
Row 5: K4 (5), P1, ssk, yo, (K1,yo) 5 times, K2 tog, P1, K to marker, sl marker, m1, K to next marker, m1, sl marker, K to end.
Row 6: P to 2nd marker, sl marker, P4 (5), K1, K13, K1, P4 (5)
Cont lace pattern as established, working m1 following the 1st marker & before the 2nd marker on each RS row until there are 12 (14) sts between markers.
End by working a WS row.

Next row: Work in patt as established to marker, remove marker, BO 11 (13) sts, remove 2nd marker, work to end.
P next row, P sts before & after the bound-off sts tog - 43 (47) sts
Cont working lace patt until 6 repeats of patt are completed.
K 1 row, P 1 row.
Change to smaller needles and work K1-P1 ribbing for 1".
BO in patt using tip of larger needle.

Sew side seams.

Left Hand
Work as for right hand to beg of lace pattern.
First set-up row:
Row 1: K26 (29), P1, ssk, K9, K2 tog, P1, K4 (5).
Cont lace pattern as for right hand, end ready to work row setting markers for thumb gusset.
Next row: K20 (22), PM, K2, PM, work in pattern to end.

Cont as for right hand.
