Waikiki + Kid Merino Ruffled Pullover

Designed and knit by Marilyn Turner for Crystal Palace Yarns

Materials: 8 (8, 9, 9, 10) 50 gr. balls Waikiki col. 3006 'jeans', 4 (4, 4, 4, 5) 25 gr balls Kid Merino col.4675 'indigo'
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles or DAISY Needles size 8 and size 9.

Sizes: Sm (Med, Lg, XLg, XXLg)
Finished bust measurement. 36 (38, 40, 42, 44)"
Length 19.5 (20.5, 20.5, 22, 22)"

Gauge: 17 sts and 22 rows = a 4" square using Waikiki and Kid Merino held together through out.

Back: With the smaller needle and one strand each of Waikiki and Kid Merino cast on 76(80, 84, 88, 92) sts and K1,P1 rib for 3".
Change to larger needle and work in Stockinette stitch until piece is 12.5(13, 13, 14, 14)" long.
Shape armhole:
Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of the next two rows, bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the following two rows and then dec 1 st each side on the next Right Side (RS) row. Work until armhole is 7 (7.5, 7.5, 8, 8)" long. Work across 16 (17, 19, 20, 22) sts bind off center 30 (32, 32, 34, 34) sts and work across remaining sts. Put shoulder sts on a holder to be worked in a three needle bind off with the front .

Front : Work as for the back until armhole shaping is complete. Begin neck shaping. Work 28 (30, 32, 34, 36) sts K2 together K1, join a second ball of yarn to work the other half of the neck, K1, K2 together through the back loop, work across. Continue to dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row 14 (15, 15, 16, 16) more times. When the front is the same length as the back put the remaining sts on a holder.

Sleeve Ruffle A With smaller needle cast on 128( 136, 136, 144, 144) sts
(You will make one for each sleeve.)
Row 1 Purl
Row 2 *K2, K2 together*
Row 3,5 and 7 Purl
Row 4 *K1, K2 together*
Row 6 *K2 together*

Do not bind off. Slip rem 32 sts onto the larger needle. Then, slip sts onto the other large needle so RS is facing. (If you are using circular needles, just slide the stitches to the other end so RS is facing.)

Sleeve Ruffle B With the smaller needle cast on 160(170, 170, 180, 180) sts
(You will make one for each sleeve.)
Row 1 Purl
Row 2 *K3, K2 together * repeat across row
Row 3, 5, 7 and 9 Purl
Row 4 *K2, K2 together*
Row 6 *K1, K2 together*
Row 8 *K2 together *
Do not bind off

Sleeve: With both RS's facing, take ruffle A and put it on top of ruffle B and knit one stitch from each ruffle tog to join. There should be 32 (34, 34, 36, 36) sts on the needle when you begin the sleeve.
Sleeve shaping
inc 1 st each side every 4th row 7 times and every 6th row 10 times.
Cap shaping
bind off 4 sts each side once, bind off 3 (4, 4, 5, 5) sts each side once and 5 sts each side 4 times, BO remaining sts.

Finishing: Put open sts from the back and front on separate needles and with right sides together knit one stitch from each needle and bind off in the normal manner. Sew up seams and set in sleeves.

Neck Ruffle
With larger needle cast on 400 (432, 432, 464, 464) sts and follow the directions for sleeve ruffle A for decreasing sts, 100(108, 108, 116, 116) sts rem. When you bind off the neck ruffle mark the center st. Line the center st up to the center back and sew the ruffle to the neck. The ends of the ruffle will meet at the bottom of the V and hang down a little.
