Raggedy Knit Bag - free knitting pattern

Our first Deco-Ribbon Knit Bag has been so popular (Click HERE for the first bag) that we have added a 2nd Deco-Ribbon bag with a different style HERE and this soft pouch bag made with our new (for Fall '03) Raggedy fringed tape yarn. This bag has a round knit bottom.

Bag measures 7-8" diameter x 9" high

Knit Raggedy Bag Pattern

Materials:  2 - 50 gr balls Raggedy fringed tape yarn, color #9162 , "sage mix" print, is used for this bag).

Deco-Ribbon is used for the straps and to crochet the pin-on flower. If you wish, make the straps with Raggedy and omit the flower. Crochet instructions for making the flower are here. Deco-Ribbon #9147, "berry parfait" is used with a small amount of #125, tangerine stripe for the center.

Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles: 16" circular size 10, 8" double point size 10, and 9" single point size 8.
Crystal Palace Bamboo Crochet Hook: size H/8

Gauge: 5 st/2 inches in seed stitch on size 10 needles.

Making bag pouch: Using 16" circular needle and Raggedy, cast on 39 stitches. Join and work in seed stitch, K1, P1, until work measures 7" from beginning. (Note: Working K1, P1 continuously in the round on an odd number of stitches will give you seed stitch.)
Continuing in seed stitch, change to double point needles and work as follows to shape bottom of pouch:
Round 1: * K2 tog, work 11 *. Repeat between *'s twice. (36 st)
Round 2, 4, 6 and 8: Work round in seed stitch.
Round 3: * K2 tog, work 2 *. Repeat between *'s. (27 st)
Round 5: * K2 tog, work 1 *. Repeat between *'s. (18 st)
Round 7: * K2 tog *. Repeat between *'s. (9 st)
Using a tapestry needle, run end of yarn through remaining 9 st, pull snug, and weave in end.

Above shows the circular
bottom of the bag.

Make two drawstring handles as follows: Using 9" single point needles and Deco-Ribbon, cast on 100 st. Using crochet hook, cast off these 100 sts. Repeat for second drawstring. Weave both handles through top of pouch. (If you prefer to knit an I-cord it will also work well for handles). Using a tapestry needle, sew ends of each drawstring loop handle together with yarn ends. Then weave in remaining ends. Pulling the two loops of handles in opposite directions will close the purse at the top.

Tip: Make the Handle Cord first and then use up all remaining Deco-Ribbon for the bag.Crystal Palace Logo button jpg (7657 bytes)
