Gauge: 10 sts = 4 inches and 16 rows = 4 inches using Nubbles in Garter stitch, using
size 11 needles. 12 sts = 4 inches and 18 rows =4 inches using Iceland in Broken Rib stitch,
using size 11 needles Be sure to make a gauge swatch, block and measure on flat surface.
Bottom Rib: Vest is worked in one piece and divided at armholes. Using Iceland, CO 107 (117) (129) (141) (153) sts.
Begin Broken Rib Stitch as follows: R1 (WS): * K1, p1, rep from * end k1 R2: Knit Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 9 rows, end after working Row 1:
Body: Begin using Nubbles.
Knit across row decrease 18 (20) (22) (24) (26) evenly. 89 (97) (107) (117)
(127) sts. Knit 7 rows. Change to Iceland Row 1: Knit 1row. Row 2: Purl 1 row.
Change to Nubbles Rows 3-10: Knit Repeat these 10 rows until piece measures 8 (8) (8.5) (9) (9.5)" from CO, end
after working a WS row.
Back Armhole Shaping: Work across 21(23) (25) (28) (31) sts, place on stitch holder for right front.
Work across 47 (51) (57) (61) (61) sts for back. Place rem 21 (23) (25) (28)
(31) sts on holder for left front. Working on back sts only. Bind off 4 sts at each end once; 3 sts each end once and Dec 1 st every RS row

Left Front Armhole Shaping: RS facing, return 21 (23) (25) (28) (31) sts for left front to needles, join
yarn at armhole edge. Work 2 rows even. At armhole edge BO 4 sts once, BO3 sts at armhole edge once, Dec 1 st every RS

working RS row.
Shape Left Neck: BO2 sts at neck edge once; dec 1 st every RS row 2 (2) (2) (2) (3) times. 8

working WS row.
Shape Right Neck: BO2 sts at neck edge once; Dec 1 st every RS row 2 (2) (2) (2) (3) times. 8

armhole BO, end after working WS row. Bind off 8 (10) (11) (12) (13) sts.
Finishing: With RS together sew 8 (10) (11) (12) (13) sts of right front and back
shoulder sts together, rep for left shoulder.
Arm Bands: (Worked in the round) Using 16" circular needles, RS facing, beg at center of underarm; PU54 (56)
(60) (60) (62) armhole and join. Broken Rib (in the round): Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd Rnd 2: Knit Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 6 rows. BO in rib. Fasten off leaving a 6"
tail. Weave tail into 1st st to close gap. Work in end.
Left Front Band: RS facing, beg at neck BO, PU35 (35) (37) (39) (41) sts along front to bottom
edge. Broken Rib: Row 1 (WS): *P1, k1, rep from. Row 2: Knit Rep these 2 rows for a total of 5 rows, end after working Row 1. RS facing, BO in k1, p1 rib.
Right Front Band: RS facing, beg at bottom edge, PU35 (35) (37) (39) (41) sts along front to
neck BO. Rep Broken Rib as for left front.
Neck Band: RS facing, beg at right front neck where the front band begins, PU 5 sts
across right band, 20 (22) (22) (24) (26) sts along front to back neck, knit
13 (13) (15) (15) (15) sts across back neck, 20 (22) (22) (24) (26) sts to
front band, 5 sts across left band. 63 (67) (69) (73) (77) sts. Work in Broken Rib as follows: Row 1 (WS): *P1, k1; rep from * Row 2: Knit Rep these 2 rows for a total of 5 rows, end after working Row 1. RS facing, BO
in k1, p1 rib.
I-cord Button Loop: Using Double pointed needles and Iceland, leaving a 6" tail, CO3 sts, knit
across 3 sts, with out turning, slide 3 sts to the end of the needles. Pull
yarn across the back and knit the 3 sts. Repeat until cord is long enough to
go around the button but not too loose, as the loop will stretch a bit after
use. Bind off, leaving a 6" inch tail. Using the tails, attach 1 end of cord to WS
at top of right front band, make a loop and anchor the other end of the cord
below the first attachment. Anchor the tails securely and work in ends.
Note: If you decide to use a smaller button than can be looped with
the 3-end I-Cord, you may want to crochet or braid the Iceland to make a
smaller loop. Sew button on top left band opposite of button loop. Work in all ends. Block if necessary.
