Sasha will guard your door & keep those wintry drafts
outside. Sasha fits a 36” wide entry door, but can easily be modified for other
door widths.
Fast and Easy on size 19s!
Materials –
Crystal Palace Iceland:
1 - 100 gr ball - #3433 “tree bark”
Crystal Palace Splash 1: - 100
gr ball -- #7190 “canyon”

Crystal Palace Bamboo or
DAISY Needles
size 19- 29” or 40" circular
- Yarn needle and Iceland, or a sewing needle and thread, to sew a seam
- Few ounces of poly fiberfill or a small piece of poly quilt batting (optional)
- buttons for eyes - we'll be showing some embellishments to Sasha, maybe a
felted tail, too?
- button eyes, either sew-on or glue-on variety
Directions:
Iceland and Splash yarns are held together throughout all knitting. Knitting is
worked in garter st (all knit).
For a 36” entry door:
Cast on 60 sts. Knit 12 rows.
Bind Off.
Piece should measure approximately 44” wide x 4-1/2” long.
Sewing
Using a length of Iceland and the yarn needle, whipstitch the cast on edge to
the bound off edge. Do not pull the yarn too tight. You can use a doubled cotton
thread (like cotton quilting thread) and a sewing needle if you wish. The knit
rectangle has changed into a tube. Tack all yarn ends into the wrong side of
tube.
Felting
When you are ready to do some laundry - just toss your knit tube into the
washing machine with your laundry and take Sasha out at the end of the cycle. If
Sasha is too wide after the wash cycle, put him/her through another wash cycle.
Stuffing (optional)
Stuff the tube with poly batting if desired. Sew ends of tube closed so stuffing
stays inside the tube.
Modifying Sasha to fit other door widths according to table below.
Tail
Make a 4 stitch I-cord tube, approximately 6” long using a single strand of
Iceland. Pull yarn end through 4 sts, fasten off. Felt this tube.
Make a pompon from Splash – the fluffier the better! Tie pompon to felted I-cord
tube end strand & pull all 3 strands to inside of I-cord tube.
Sew felted I-cord tube+pompom to one end of felted Sasha, using the tube’s
cast-on tail. Hide the remaining cast on tail inside the tail.
Eyes
Attach button eyes to the “head end” of Sasha. Either sew-on or glue-on eyes can
be used.
Splash is
perfect for this project because of its LONG eyelashes. [Other similar looking
eyelash yarns have shorter lashes.] Splash’s long eyelashes are the key to
Sasha’s efficiency in blocking wintry drafts.
