Adjust stitches so there are 7 sts on needles 1 and 4 and 6
sts on needles 2 and 3.
K2tog from needles 1 and 4 as if doing a 3 needle bind off,
BUT DO NOT BIND OFF the first 5 stitch pairs. Bind off the next 3 stitch pairs,
using the 3 needle bind off method. Check head and stuff as necessary. Continue
across final 5 stitch pairs on needles 2 and 3, joining them as for the initial
stitches from needles 1 and 4. Head is now closed and stuffed, leaving 5 live
stitches on each side for the garter stitch ears.
Add garter stitch ears:
Row 1: K1, inc, K1, inc, K1. (7 sts)
Row 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9: K.
Row 6, 8: K2 tog, K across to last 2 sts, K2tog.
Row 10: K3tog.
Fasten off.
Tail:
Work 6 rows of 3 st I-Cord, 6 rows of 4 st I-Cord, 6 rows of 5 st I-Cord, and 25
rows of 6 st I-Cord. Bind off, leaving long yarn end. Using long yarn end, sew
tail to body.
Finishing:
Embellish as desired. Add “personality” by embroidering eyes and
adding whiskers. Give this cat a nice collar, too!
