Meringue:-14 (16, 18, 20)
50 gram balls, color # 9808
Needles: Crystal Palace
Bamboo or DAISY Needles US
size 9 and 10 straight, or may be knit back and forth on circular needles, Or
size needed to obtain gauge.
Locking ring or split marker
2- stitch holders
1-1” button
Gauge: 18 sts & 26 rows = 4" on size 10 needles in
pattern stitch; blocked; due to the elastic content in this yarn it is
recommended to let the swatch rest 12 hours before measuring the gauge. Be sure
to do a gauge swatch.
Abbreviations: BO-bind off; CO-cast on; Dec-decrease;
estab-established; k-knit; k2tog-knit 2 stitches together; patt-pattern; PU-pick
up; p-purl; rem-remain; rep-repeat; RS-right side; ssk-slip slip knit; st(s)-stitch(es);
WS-wrong side.
Back
Using Size 9 Needle, CO 87 (97, 107, 117) sts. Knit 2 rows. Change to Size 10
needle, work as follows:
Note: Square Brick Stitch pattern includes selvedge stitch at each
end.
Row 1 (RS): K1, *k5, p5; rep from * to last 6 sts, end k6
Row 2: K1, *p5, k5; rep from * to last 6 sts end p5, k1
Row 3: Rep Row 1
Row 4: Rep Row 2
Row 5: Rep Row 1
Row 6: Rep Row 1
Row 7: Rep Row 2
Row 8: Rep Row 1
Row 9: Rep Row 2
Row 10: Rep Row 1
Repeat these 10 Rows for 33 (33, 34, 35)” or desired length to underarm.
Armhole Shaping
BO 3 (3, 5, 5) sts at beginning next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of next row;
rep dec every other row 2 (3, 4, 4) times. 75 (83, 87, 97) sts remain. Work even
until armhole measures 8 ½ (9, 9, 9 ½)”. Work all Dec sts into patt as
established.
Shape Neck
Working both sides at the same time, continuing in pattern as established; work
26 (29, 32, 35) sts; join 2nd ball of yarn, BO next 23 (25, 27, 27) sts, work
rem sts. Each shoulder will have 26 (29, 32, 35) sts. Place marker at center st
of BO sts, dec 1 st at each neck edge every row 2 times. [24 (27, 30, 33) sts]
remain. Work even until back measures 9 (9 ½ , 9 ½ , 10)”. BO all rem sts for
each shoulder.
Fronts
Notes:
1. Stitch pattern includes selvedge stitch at side seam edge.
2. When joining new ball of yarn for the fronts, join on selvedge stitch side,
the 4 stitches at the other side are the finished front trim of the vest.
Keeping the join on the side that will be seamed, will keep the front trim neat
when working in ends.
3. The stitch pattern is reversible it is, however the stitch pattern for each
front has been written so the blocks will alternate when seamed to back. It is
helpful to mark each front RS facing as “Left front” or “Right front.
Left Front
Using size 9 needles, CO 45 (50, 55, 60) sts. Knit 2 rows. Change to size 10
needles work as follows:
Row 1: K1, *p5, k5; rep from * to last st; k4
Row 2: K4, *p5, k5; rep from * to last st; k1
Row 3: Rep Row 1
Row 4: Rep Row 2
Row 5: Rep Row 1
Row 6: K4, Rep *k5, p5; rep from * to last st; k1
Row 7: K1, *k5, p5; rep from * to last 4 sts; k4
Row 8: Rep Row 6
Row 9: Rep Row 7
Row 10: Rep Row 6
Repeat these 10 rows until piece measures same as for back.
Neck and armhole shaping
Note: Neck decreases are made by knitting 1 body st together with 1 trim st,
shaping is taking place in the body rather than at outside edge. The 4 trim sts
will be kept in knit on all other rows as established.
Work armhole bind off and dec same as for back, at the same time begin neck dec
as follows:
Work in patt as established to last 5 sts, k2tog, k3; repeat neck dec every
other row; 1 (1,1, 2) times; every 4th row 2 (3, 0, 2) times and every 6th row 7
(7, 9, 8) times. [28 (31, 34, 37) sts].
Work even until armhole measures same as for back end after
working WS row. BO 24 (27, 30, 33) sts. Place remaining 4 sts on holder for neck
trim, do not fasten off.
The attached yarn will be used to work back neck trim.
Right Front
Using size 9 needles, CO 45 (50, 55, 60) sts. Knit 2 rows. Change to size 10
needles work as follows:
Row 1: K4, *k5, p5; rep from * to last st; k1
Row 2: K1, *k5, p5; rep to last 4 sts, end k4
Row 3: Rep Row 1
Row 4: Rep Row 2
Row 5: Rep Row 1
Row 6: K1, *p5, k5, rep from *to last 4 sts; k4
Row 7: K4, *p5, k5; rep from * to last st, k1
Row 8: Rep Row 6
Row 9: Rep Row 7
Row 10: Rep Row 6
Repeat these 10 rows until piece measures the same as for back.
Armhole and Neck Shaping
Note: Neck decreases are made by knitting 1 body st together with 1 trim
st, shaping is taking place in the body rather than at outside edge. The 4 trim
sts will be kept in knit on all other rows as established.
Work armhole bind off and armhole dec same as for back, at the
same time begin neck dec as follows: knit 3 sts, k2tog, work rem sts in pattern,
repeat neck dec every other row; 1 (1,1, 2) times; every 4th row 2 (3, 0, 2)
times and every 6th row 7 (7, 9, 8) times. [28 (31, 34, 37) sts]. Work even
until armhole measures same as for back, end after working WS row. Place 4 sts
on holder for neck trim, join 2nd ball of yarn to bind off; BO 24 (27, 30, 33)
sts. Fasten off the 2nd ball of yarn. Do not fasten of the yarn attached to the
4 stitches on holder, this will be used to work back neck trim.
Finishing
Sew shoulder seams. Work back neck trim. Work armhole trim. Sew side seams,
making sure that block pattern alternates at the seam. Work in all ends.
Back neck Trim
Using size 10 needles, place 4 sts from right front holder onto needles, knit
every row until piece reaches to center back of neck. BO all sts. Rep for left
front holder. Sew the 4 sts from each piece together then sew along both sides
back neckline edge to center back, matching trim seam to center back marker.
Armhole Trim
Using size 9 needles RS facing beginning at left front armhole bind off, PU 80
(84, 88, 92) sts along entire armhole, knit 2 rows. BO. Repeat for right armhole
beginning at right back armhole bind off.
