( I've never had knitters laugh when seeing a hat on anyone
as much as when this hat is modeled!)

Labrador + Fizz
Felted Hat
Easy & Fast to knit using size DAISY 35 DP needles
Materials:
1-50 gr. ball of Fizz (here color
9153, berry parfait)
1-100 gr. balls of Labrador wool
(here color 9580, kelim)
2 ends of Labrador and 1 end Fizz are held together to knit the hat.
The finished knit is very loose until after felting.
Note: Before beginning hat,
divide the ball of Labrador into 2 balls.
To knit the hat:
Using size 35 Double Point Daisy Needles,
holding 2 ends of Labrador and one of Fizz, cast on 10 sts on each of 3 DPs [total 30]. Join the round, being careful not to twist the first row
when joining.
Knit 3 rounds in St st, knit one round in rev St st (purl
side out), then work 7 more rounds in St st.
12th Round: K1, K2tog, repeat to end of round. [20 sts]
Knit 1 round.
14th Round: K1, K2 tog, repeat to end of round.
Continue K1, K2 tog until 9 sts rem. Place 3 sts on each DP needle.
Work each group of 3 sts into fat I-cords on the DPs
(forming 3 long I-cords) each approx. 10 inches long.
There will be some holes at the base of the I-cords at the
top of the hat. Using a tapestry needle and some Labrador, sew up the holes
loosely.
Check the sides of the loosely knit hat, if there are any
large holes where you moved from one DP to the next, sew up the hole with
the Labrador on your tapestry needle. [Remember, you'll be felting the hat
and it will tighten up a lot! See the before and after photos below.]
Put your hat into washing machine with a low water setting
and a few hand towels or a bath towel to help rub the wool during felting.
My hat felted nicely in one 5 min. cycle of wash and rinse. I did not need
to put in a dryer. Take your hat out after a few minutes to check size and
amount of felting. When hat is felted enough, remove it and allow it to dry
on a towel.
[Note: If you don't want to have the I-cord
'pigtails' at the top of the hat, just leave them off and decrease at the
top of the hat until you are down to only 2 sts and cast off.]
Make a hat on DAISY 35 DPs and send us a photo with your name and someting
about how you knit your hat - we'd love to have a Gallery photo to show off
your creations.
Below see what a set of
DAISY size 35 DPs look like - fun!
