free crochet baby blanket pattern in Kiddo Yarn
Log Cabin Crocheted Baby Blanket
(easy to crochet)
This baby blanket design is based on a log
cabin quilt block. It is a single block expanded to fill a blanket.
Finished size is approx. 36" x 36", but will vary slightly depending on
gauge of your work.
Materials:
10-50 gr balls
Crystal Palace Kiddo:
2 balls: #418 "scuba" (B1) & 3 balls: #204 "starry blue" (B2),
2 balls ea. of the 2 pinks:
#416 "tulips" (A1) & #205 "crystal pink"(A2),
+ 1 ball center color: #212 "apricot" (C1) or as desired for
center.
[Note: you may wish to buy one extra ball of color B1, the model
came out almost exactly using 2 balls with only 1 yd left over. If you wish to
use less yarn, make the center square with A2 instead of a new color.]
Hook: Crystal Palace Bamboo
size L-11 or size needed to obtain gauge in HDC (Half Double Crochet)
Gauge: Center 6” square = 14 stitches (count turning chain as 1
stitch), 12 rows
(Note: gauge is not terribly important since size can be
flexible. Each "log" is 5.5 inches wide.)
The stitches used:
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
Center: In color C1
Foundation: Chain 15
Row 1: hdc1 in 3rd chain from hook, hdc1 in each chain to end (13 hdc)
Row 2: ch2 to turn, hdc1 in each stitch to end
Rows 3-12: Repeat Row 2
Log 2 (In color A1)
Next 11 rows Repeat Row 2
Logs 3-13: Work each box in color sequence A2, B1, B2, A2, A1, B2,
B1, A1, A2, B1, B2 (as seen on color chart)
In next color
Log Row 1: Ch 2 instead of turning around, turn the corner and hdc evenly
down the entire long side of the work (Each box will be about 11 stitches
longer than the previous box)
Log Rows 2-11: Ch2 to turn, hdc1 in each stitch to end
Tips & Notes:
Holding work up so that it is back lit makes it easier to count rows and
stitches
For clean color changes, work the final yarn over of the old color in the
new color. (pulling the new color through all three loops of the final hdc
in the old color)
Work over the yarn ends as you go.
