free knit child's sweater pattern
Kiddo Child's Pullover
- Easy to Knit
Sizes: 1 yr (18 mos, 2 yrs, 3-4 yrs) Finished garment at chest: 22" (24, 26, 28) inches
Materials: Crystal Palace
Kiddo: 2 (2, 3,
4) - 50 gram
balls, color #412 "dreamy" Needles: Crystal Palace Bamboo or
CPY DAISY Needles US sizes 9 and 10 Gauge: 3 sts = 1" on size 10 needles in garter st, be sure to do a gauge
swatch.
The entire sweater is knit in garter st (knit all rows).
Back With smaller needles, cast on 34 (37,40,43) sts. Work 4 rows in garter st. Change to larger needles and work until piece meas 6.5 (7, 7.5, 8.5)". Place underarm
markers. Continue until piece meas 11 (12, 13, 14.5)". Bind off all sts across back.
Front Work as for back, including all shaping, and, at the same time when piece meas
9 (10,10.5,11.5)" Begin Neck Shaping: Work to center 10 (10,11,11) sts, place these center sts on stitch
holder or spare needle, attach another small ball of yarn. Complete row.
Working both sides at once using 2 balls of yarn, dec 1 st at each neck edge,
every other row 3x (3x, 4x, 5x). Continue until piece meas 11 (12, 13, 14.5)"
to match back length. Bind off all sts across each
shoulder.
Sleeves With smaller needles cast on 22 (22,24,26) sts and knit 3 rows.
Sleeve Increases: Change to larger needles, cont working in garter st. Inc 1 st
on each side every 7 (6,6,6) rws 2x (3x,1x,2x). Then every 8 rws 1x (2x,4x,4x)
[28 (32, 34, 38 sts]. Continue working
until piece meas 6.5 (7.5,8.5,9.5)" . Bind off 28 (32,34,38) sts.
Finishing Sew shoulder seams. Center sleeve top to shoulder and sew sleeves to sweater
body. Seam sleeves and underarm side seams.
Neck Finishing With larger size 16" circular needle or dpn set , pick up 45 (49, 53, 59)
sts evenly around neck edge (including the sts on holder from center front).
Work 4 rows in garter st or desired width of neck band. Bind off loosely.
