Finished Chest Measurements: 36(40,46)"
Cotton Chenille 100% cotton, 6(7,8) 50gm skeins (98 yds). (If
using 4 colors as in photo, use 2 skeins per color).
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles sizes 4 and 6 single points, or size to
obtain gauge; stitch holders.
GAUGE: 4 sts = 1" in Stockinette stitch (St st) on
Take time to check gauge. [Note: It is important to knit
Cotton Chenille at the correct gauge. Do not knit looser than recommended
Triangle stitch: (multiple of 5 sts)
Row 1: right side (RS): knit
Row 2: *k1 ,p4*, repeat bet*
Row 3: *k3,p2*, rep bet *
Row4: same as row 3
Row 5: same as row 2
Row 6: knit
Repeat these 6 rows for pattern.
Reverse Stockinette Stitch: (Rev St st)
Row 1: (RS) purl
Row 2: knit
Repeat these 2 rows.
Double seed stitch: (even number of sts)
Row 1: (RS) *k1, p1*, rep bet *, end k1
Row 2 & 4: work sts as they appear
Row 3: *p1 ,k1*, rep bet *, end p1
Repeat these 4 rows.
Squares stitch: (multiple of 10 sts plus 5)
Rows 1 & 3: (RS) *k5, p5*, rep bet *, end p5
Rows 2,4,6 & 8: work sts as they appear
Rows 5 & 7: *p5,k5*, rep bet *, end p5
Repeat these 8 rows .
(MB = make bobble: k into front, back, front, back of next st [making 4 st
inc]. Turn work, p4 [sts just made]. Turn work, k4. Turn work, p2 tog twice.
Turn, k2 tog)
Rows 1 & 5: (RS) knit
Rows 2,4 & 6: purl
Row 3: *k4, MB *, rep bet *, end k5 (do not make bobble in the edge st)
Repeat these 6 rows for pattern.
Garter stitch: knit all rows
BACK: With smaller needles cast on 75(85,95) sts. Work in k2,p2 rib for 2(2,3)" end with a wrong side row. Change to larger needles and work in Triangle st for 18(18,24) rows [(3(3,4)"]. Then work in St st for 2 rows. Work Rev St st for 2(4,2) rows and St st for 2 rows again.
Work Double seed st for 20 rows [3,3"]. Work a sequence of St st 2 rows, Rev St st 2(4,2) rows, St st 2 rows. Work Squares st for 16(20,20) rows [2.5(3.3,3.3)"]. Work a sequence of St st 2 rows, Rev St st 2(4,2) rows, St st 2 rows. Work Bobble st for 18(18,24 rows [3(3,4)"]. Work Rev St st for 2(4,2) rows, then work St st for 2 rows. Bind off all sts loosely.
FRONT: Work as for back until piece measures 2" shorter than back. Then, keeping sts in pattern, work 25(29,31) sts. Attach a second ball of yarn and bind off center 25(27,33) sts to form neck. Work rem sts in row. Continue working both sides at same time, dec 1 st each neck edge every other row 2 times. When front length equals back, bind off all sts loosely.
FINISHING: Sew left shoulder seam. Beginning at right shoulder with right side of work facing, pick up 10 sts along right front neck. Next pick up center 25(27,33) sts. Then pick up 10 sts along left front neck. Then pick up 29(31,37) sts across back neck. Work these sts in Garter st for 9 rows. Bind off. Sew right shoulder seam.
Armhole: Measure 9(9,10)" down from shoulder seams on front and
back. Place marker at each spot. Starting
with right side facing, pick up 72(72,80)
sts bet markers. Work in Garter st for 9
rows. bind off loosely. Repeat for other armhole. Sew side seams.
