Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles sizes 6, 8 & 9 or size to obtain correct
gauge. 2 buttons (optional).
GAUGE: 5 sts = 1" on largest needles in Mikado in Stockinette St. And 5
st = 1" on smallest needles in Waikiki in Garter St.
To save time, be sure to take the time to check gauge.
Pattern Stitches:
1. Garter Stitch: Knit every row
2. Stockinette Stitch:
Row 1: (right side) Knit
Row 2: Purl
FRONT: With Mikado Ribbon and medium needles cast on 86(96,104) sts.
Work in Garter St for 1." Change to largest needles and work St st for 8
(8-1/2, 9)."
SHAPE NECK: Work across 43(48,52) sts. With 2nd ball of yarn work
across rem 43(48,52) sts. Work each half separately but at same time.
To shape neckline, at each neck edge:
Small size: k2 tog every 4th row 20 times.
Med size: k2 tog every 4th row 22 times.

Large size: k2 tog every 4th row 20 times, then every 2nd row 4 times.
At the same time shape armhole: When piece measures 11 (11-1/2, 12)" cast on 3
sts at each armhole edge to create a base for the sleeve. Work 2 rows. Then at
each armhole edge dec one st every 2nd and 3rd row alternately until 3 sts
remain and total length is 21 (22,23)." Bind off 3 sts at shoulder.
BACK: Work as for front without neck shaping. At 20(21,22)" bind off
center 30(34,38) sts. Working each side separately, dec one st at neck edge 2
times until 3 sts remain. Bind off.
COWL: With smallest needles and Waikiki cast on 61(63,69) sts. Work in
Garter st. K2 tog at each side every 3rd and 4th row alternately until one st
remains and piece measures 12 (12-3/4, 13-1/2)." Bind off.
SLEEVES: With smallest needles and Waikiki, cast on 70(78,84) sts. Work
in Garter st. At 1" dec one st each side every 2nd and 3rd row alternately
32(35,37) times until 6(8,10) sts rem and length is 10(10-1/2,11)." Bind off.
FINISHING: Sew side seams up to first armhole decrease. Sew front and
back shoulder stitches together. Set in sleeves matching the sleeve center to
the top of the shoulder. Ease in raglan edges on front and back. Sew small
underarm seam. Ease cowl piece into V front. It should drape. Crochet around
back edge. If desired, sew buttons at neck edge for decoration.
