6 (6, 7, 7, 8) 50 gram balls (here in color #1610, "summer heat")
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles:
size 10, cable needle
Gauge: 17 sts = 4" (4.25 sts = 1") 5.5 rows = 1"
Be sure to check your gauge on a swatch! Knitters' gauges vary a
lot with Choo-Choo and it is definitely worth the time to check
your gauge.
Cable Panel on Front of Shell
The center of front has a 4x4 cable with 2 rev st st on each side = 12 sts wide,
crossed every 12 rows.
Cable Pattern:
Rows 1,3,5,7,9,11 (odd numbered rows): (WS) k2, p8, k2
Row 2: p2, slip next 4 sts to cable needle and hold in front of work, k4, k4 sts
from cable needle, p2
Row 4,6,8,10,12 : p2, k8, p2
Repeat these 12 rows to form cable panel.
Back
Cast on 68 (74,82,88,94) sts.
Work even in st st until piece measures 15 (15, 15, 15.5, 16)".
Armhole Shaping
Bind off 4 (5,7,9,10) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other
row 4 (5,7,8,9) times [52 (54, 54, 54, 56) sts.].
Continue in pat st until piece measures 19.25 (19.5,19.5, 20, 21)" from the
start.
Begin Back Neck Shaping
On next row, work 12 (13, 12, 12, 13) sts, attach another ball of yarn, bind off
center 28 (28, 30, 30, 30) sts, work across row. Working both sides at once, dec
1 st at each neck edge, every other row 2 (3, 2, 3, 3) times [10 (10, 10, 9, 10)
sts]. Continue in st st until piece measures 23.5 (24, 24, 25, 26)" from start.
Shape Shoulders
Bind off 4 (4,4,3,4) sts beg of next 2 rows.
Bind off 3 sts beg of next 2 rows.
Bind off 3 sts beg of next 2 rows.
Bind off.
Front
Work as for back, including all shaping, except insert 12 st cable panel in
center of front.
To Center the Cable: begin on row 3 of cable pattern on st 29
(32,36,39,42) of first WS row of front. This will allow you to work 11 rows of
front before twisting first cable. And, at the same time when piece measures 17.25
(17.5, 15.5, 18.25, 19)"
Begin Neck Shaping
On next row, work 17 (18,17,17,18) sts, attach another ball of yarn, bind off
center 18 (18,20,20,20) sts, and work across row. Working both sides at once,
dec 1 st at each neck edge, every other row 7 (8,7,8,8,) times. Continue in pat
st until piece measures 23.5 (24,24,25,26)" from the start.
Shape Shoulders
Work shoulder shaping (at shoulder edge) to correspond with back.
Finishing
Seam shoulders. Seam sides.
Note: Our photo and model garment does not have an armhole edging or
neck edging. But if you wish to add one here is how:
Armhole Edging
With smaller size 16" circular needle or dpn set, pick up 80 (86,90,99,105) sts
around armhole edge. Work in desired ribbing for 1/2" or desired length. Bind
off loosely in ribbing.
Rolled Neck Finishing (this could be added with contrasting yarn such
as Fizz or Splash or Whisper for a fun neckline trim).
With smaller size 16" circular needle or dpn set and RS facing, pick up 35
(35,37,37,39) sts from right neck edge, 18 (20,20,20,20) sts front neck sts, 35
(35,37,37,39) sts from left neck edge,
78 (84,84,86,90) back neck sts, place marker, join [166 (174,178,180,190) sts]
Work in the round, knit to desired depth. Bind off loosely.
