free knit scarf pattern

Choo-Choo & Shimmer Lengthwise Stripe Scarf
Easy & Fast to Knit  Makes a 66" scarf

Materials:
1-50 gr. ball of Choo-Choo and 2-50 gr. balls of Shimmer (each in different color). For the scarf shown I used these colors: Choo-Choo #1663 "Natural" , Shimmer #1736 "Cream" and #1737 "Jet Black".  [There are many color combinations possible with Choo-Choo and Shimmer.]

Size 13 needles 26" Circular CPY Bamboo Needles

Before beginning, if you want a fringe, wrap a 3-yarn grouping (one end of each) yarn lengthwise around a CD plastic box (or something with a similar dimension). I used 8 groups to make the fringe on each end of the scarf shown (thus 16 wraps around the box).

The entire scarf is knit in garter st (all rows knit)

To knit scarf:
Loosely Cast on 110 sts with Choo-Choo.
Knit one row with Choo-Choo.
Tie on first color of Shimmer and knit one row.
Tie on second color of Shimmer and knit one row.

Now work through each of the three yarns, knitting one row in each. You will find the next yarn "waiting for you" at the beg of each row.

Continue until the scarf is the desired width or until you can see you are getting low on Choo-Choo. End with a Choo-Choo row, knit one more row of Choo-Choo.

Bind of LOOSELY. (Tip: bind off using size 15 needles to help keep the bind off loose.)

Use a crochet hook to knot on the fringe by folding each group of 3 yarns in half and pulling the loop through a stitch at the end of the scarf. Then pull the ends of the yarn group through the loop and tightening each.

You may want to block your scarf. Dampen your scarf in warm water and blot in towel to remove excess water, pin to a towel to dry flat.
