Cameo Easy Aran Cable Unisex Pullover

This sweater is a perfect "first cable" sweater project -
one cable style, seed stitch, St st and Rev St st.

Crystal Palace CAMEO, natural color #0204, 50 gr balls: 10 (11) (12) (14) (15) (17) (19) (22) 
Cameo, 80% merino wool/ 20% nylon, is a new yarn,
arriving late Jan.-early Feb. 2006.


Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles or Daisy Needles:
Sizes US 10-1/2 (6.5mm) and US 10-3/4 (7mm) straight or circular; Size 10-1/2 (6.5mm) 16” circular OR Size to obtain gauge
Cable needle
2 stitch holders
[Note: both CPY Bamboo Needles and DAISY Needles come in size 10-3/4 (7mm). We have seen a discussion on KnittersReview forum saying this size needle is not available in the USA, not so.]

Tip: Before beginning to knit this sweater, highlight the size you are following throughout the pattern to make it easier to follow.

Gauge:
14 sts = 4 inches, and 22 rows = 4 inches, using size 10-3/4 needle over St st
18 sts = 4 inches, and 24 rows = inches, using 10-3/4 needle over 28 Center Cable Panel sts

Be sure to make a gauge swatch before beginning project.

Abbreviations:
Beg-beginning; BO-bind off; C6-cable 6; CO-cast on; Dec-decrease; inc-increase; IncL-Increase left slant; IncR-Increase right slant; K- knit; K2tog- knit 2 stitches together; pm-place marker; psso- pass slip stitch over; PU-pick up; Rem- remaining; Rep-repeat; Rnds-rounds; RS-right side; Sl-1 stitch (purl wise); SSK- slip slip knit; St(s)-stitch (es); WS- wrong side; YO-yarn over.

Techniques:

C6: Slip next 3 stitches to Cable Needle, hold these stitches to the back, knit next 3 stitches on left needle, then knit the 3 stitches from the Cable Needle

IncL: Use left needle to pick up the top of the st below the stitch just knit. Lift stitch onto the left needle and knit it.

IncR: Use the right needle to pick up the top of the stitch below the stitch on the left needle. Lift it onto the left needle, knit it, and then knit the original stitch.

SSK: Slip 2 stitches, one at a time as if to knit, place tip of left needle through the front of these 2 stitches, knit together.

Back:
Using size 10-1/2 needles, CO66 (70) (74) (78) (82) (90) (98) (102) sts. Work in rib pattern as follows:
Row 1:
K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end to end of row.
Row 2:
P2 *k2, p2; rep from * to end of row.
Rep these 2 rows for a total of 11 (12) (11) (12) (13) (13) (13) (14) rows increasing 1 st at each end on last row. 68 (72) (76) (80) (84) (92) (100) (104) sts.

Change to size 10-3/4 needles, begin pattern as follows:

Note: Sl-1 is worked by slipping 1 stitch purl wise.

NOTE: When measuring length, measure in the middle of the St st section on either side of the cable panel.

Armhole Shaping:

Dec Row: K1, ssk, pattern to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Work Dec row every other row for a total of 3 (3) (4) (4) (4) (6) (7) (7) times. [56 (60) (60) (64) (68) (72) (76) (80) sts.] Work in pattern as established until armhole measures (7.5) (8) (8.5) (9) (9.5) (9.5) (10) (10.5)” end after working WS row.

Shape Neck and shoulder shaping: Neck and shoulder shaping occur at the same time.

For Sizes 34.5 (36) (38.75) (41) (43.25) (47.5):

For Size 52.5 (54.75):
Work both sides at the same time, BO7 (8), k17 (18); there will be 18 (19) sts on right needle; slip next 26 sts to holder; join another ball and k25 (27).
BO7 (8), p15 (16) p2togtbl; next side, p2tog, p16 (17). Each side will have 17 (18) sts

Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams. Work Neck trim. Sew sleeves into armholes; sew sleeve and underarm seams. Work in all ends.
