Measurements: 10” tall X 11” wide (excluding handles)
Materials:
3 balls Crystal
Palace Cameo; Color #9800, Painted Iris
Purse handles 7 ½” wide and 6” tall
Optional: 1 button, 1-1/4”
Tapestry Needle
Sewing needle and thread for button
Optional: 5” thin ribbon for button
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles or Daisy Needles: US 10 (6mm)
and 10-1/2(6.5mm) OR size to obtain gauge.
Gauge:
14 stitches and 21 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette stitch using Size
10-1/2 (6.5mm) Needles; blocked.
Note: Gauge is not terribly important.
Abbreviations:
BO-bind off; CO-cast on; K-knit; P-purl; Rep-repeat; RS-right side; Sl1-slip
1 stitch purlwise; St(s)-stitch (es); WS- wrong side.
Casing:
Using smaller needles, CO 48 stitches.
Row 1: Knit.
Row 2: Purl.
Rep these 2 rows once more.
Knit 2 rows for turning ridge.
Body:
Row 1: K11, p2, k6, p2, sl1, k1, p1, k1, p1, sl1, p2, k6, p2, k11.
Row 2: P11, k2, p6, k2, p2, k1, p1, k1, p1, k2, p6, k2, p11.
Row 3: K11, p2, slip next 3 sts to cable needle hold in back, knit 3 sts,
then knit 3 sts from cable needles, p2, sl1, k1, p1, k1, p1, sl1, p2, slip
next 3 sts to cable needle, hold in front, knit next 3 sts, then knit 3 sts
from cable needle, p2, k11.
Row 4: Same as Row 2.
Repeat these 4 rows until piece measures 20” from CO edge; end after working
row 1.
Casing:
Change to smaller needles. Knit 2 rows for turning ridge. Then work the
following rows:
Row 1 (WS): Purl.
Row 2: Knit.
Rep these 2 rows once more. BO all stitches.
Finishing:
With RS together, fold piece in half. Beginning 3 1/2” below turning
ridge, using tapestry needle and yarn, sew side seam. Repeat for other side.
Place handle to the inside at the top of the bag, fold casing over handle
stitch down, taking care that handle is firmly encased.
Optional: Sew on button.
Optional: Thread thin piece of ribbon through button, to cover the thread,
tie and knot on WS. Trim ends of ribbon.
