This scarf is
whisper light!
You need a sewing machine to make this scarf.
Go to a sewing
supply store or a quilt shop.
Purchase one of the several brands of water dissolvable base
(brand names are Solvy, Avalon and others).
Thread your sewing
machine with a color of thread that will go with the yarns you will
use. The thread will not show very much. Use a different color in the
bobbin, if you wish, or the same color.
Set your machine to a medium to wide,
elongated zig-zag stitch.
Cut a strip of base the width and
length you want your finished scarf. Start with the Deco-Ribbon and
lay a vertical length down the middle of the base. Leave extra
Deco-Ribbon at the top and bottom for a fringe. Cut the length.
Now, slowly sew from top to bottom of the Deco-Ribbon attaching it to
the base. You do not need to pin. Now add more lengths of Deco-Ribbon
to the left and the right sides and sew. Fill in another length
between the center and edge and both sides.
Next I took Choo-Choo and sewed
diagonal lengths back and forth from side to side, catching the
Choo-Choo under the zig-zag stitching. It doesn't matter if you catch
it perfectly. Remember to leave extra at each end for fringe.
Flip the scarf over and add more
diagonal Choo-Choo to the back side.
Now add 1-3 lengths of Choo-Choo
vertically between the lines of Deco-Ribbon.
Add some Fizz vertically to fill more
spaces with texture. I put Fizz between each line of Deco-Ribbon.
Lastly, with just the sewing machine
thread and without yarn, sew across the ends and back and forth across
the width of the scarf every 5-6 inches. This stitching will not be
particularly visible, but will help give body to the scarf.
Now, take your scarf to a large bowl of
warm water (read the instructions for dissolving the base, some ask
for warm water, some for detergent) and dissolve the base. Rinse. Now
open a bath towel and lay the scarf on the towel and roll to remove
extra moisture.
I covered my scarf with a pressing
cloth and with a low heat steam iron I gently pressed it flat. Be
careful NOT to melt the yarn since the synthetic fiber can melt with a
hot iron applied directly to the yarns.
