Gauge:
3 stitches per inch and 4 rows per inch in stockinette stitch in the round (Note: Gauge is not terribly important as you are not making a sock to fit a foot.)

Dimensions: 15½" inches from top of cuff to bottom of sole, 7" wide, and 12" from back of heel to tip of toe before felting 13" inches from top of cuff to bottom of sole, 6" wide, and 10" from back of heel to tip of toe after felting

Begin the Cuff:
Using circular needle, Cast on 40 stitches with one strand of Color A. Place marker, join being careful not to twist the row, and knit one round.
At the beginning of Round 2 and for each even row, add one strand of Color C (Popcorn). For odd rounds of the cuff, knit with only one strand of Color A. Simply leave the Popcorn attached until you work back around to it. Knit in stockinette stitch for a total of 13 rounds.
Stocking Leg:
At the beginning of Round 14, cut Colors A and C and change to Color B. Begin knitting alternating stripes of Color B, followed by Color A as follows – *Work 4 rounds with Color B followed by 4 rounds of Color A*. Repeat the instructions between the asterisks until there are
7 stripes total, and then begin the last strip with Color A. Work 2 rounds with Color A.
This will leave you at the stitch marker, which will now denote the middle of the heel stitches.
Leave Color A attached, but do not use it. Instead, you will attach and begin to knit the heel with Color B.
Short Row Heel:
The heel will be knit using only the 10 stitches on each side of the stitch marker (20 stitches total) and letting the other 20 stitches rest on the cable of the needle. Knitting will be done back and forth, so watch for turning instructions.

Work the short row heel with Color B as follows:
K9, hold yarn in front, Sl, bring yarn to back (byb), turn the work, and slip the wrapped stitch to the RH needle.

K18, hold yarn in front, Sl, turn, and slip the wrapped stitch to the RH needle.
P19 and turn the work.
K10, which should bring you to the stitch marker. Drop Color B and pick up Color A.
As you proceed to knit the instep stitches, you may find it helpful to pick up the two wraps on the
first and last heel stitches and knit them together with the first and last instep stitches. This helps to
eliminate possible holes at the joining of the heel/instep/sole stitches.

Begin Knitting the Foot:
As you begin knitting in the round again, you will continue the stripe of Color A that was started
before the heel.
With Color A, work 2 rounds* to complete the stripe started on the leg, and then continue alternating stripes as follows: *Work 4 rounds with Color B followed by 4 rounds of Color A*, repeating between the asterisks until there are a total of 4 full stripes plus the ½ stripe of Color A after the heel. Cut Color A.

*(Tip: To pick up the wraps in the first round of resumed knitting in the round, work as follows – beginning at the stitch marker. K10, pick up the two wraps and place them on the LH needle, knit the two wraps and the 11 stitch together, K18, slip the the next stitch (20th on the needle) to the RH needle while you place the two wraps on the LH needle, then return the slipped stitch to the RH needle and knit the stitch and the two wraps together, and K10, which returns you to the stitch marker.)

Stocking Toe
With Color B, and changing to double point needles when necessary, begin working the stocking toe as follows:
Round 1: Knit (40 stitches)
Round 2: *K3, K2tog* (32 stitches)
Round 3: Knit
Round 4: Knit
Round 5: *K2, K2tog* (24 stitches)
Round 6: Knit
Round 7: Knit
Round 8: *K1, K2tog* (16 stitches)
Round 9: Knit
Round 10: * K2tog* (8 stitches)
Round 11: Knit

Cut yarn. Use a tapestry needle to draw the yarn tail through all 8 loops on the needle. Tighten the toe closed and weave in the end securely. With Color A, single crochet in each stitch of the cast on edge of the cuff.

Hanging Loop:
Using two double point needles and Color A, cast on 4 stitches and work a 5" I-cord. Cut yarn and pull tail through all three stitches and tighten. Weave in all ends. Sew loop to the top of the stocking cuff about 1" below the top of the cuff as shown in the photograph. Lightly felt the stocking using your preferred felting method.
