Felted Cosmetic Clutch with Tassels
Knit with Crystal Palace Yarns Iceland - 100% wool

Designed, knit and felted by Terry L. Ross for Crystal Palace Yarns

Materials:
1 ball (100 gr.) Crystal Palace Yarns Iceland in Fuchsia (Color A)
1 ball (100 gr.) Crystal Palace Yarns Iceland in Strawberry Pink (Color B)
Crystal Palace Bamboo or DAISY Circular Needles
2 US size #11 (8.0 mm) 16" needles for knitting in the round on two circular needles
12 small tassels (purchase or make from floss)
Coordinating sewing thread
Closure snap, if desired

Gauge:
Approximately 3.25 stitches per inch worked in pattern
Please note that because of the stitch pattern, this bag will tend to pucker horizontally so the floats need
to be carried very loosely. They will felt into the wrong side of the bag and become indistinguishable
when the bag is felted to a firm density.

Measurements:
Before felting – 11" wide, 8" tall
After felting – 9"wide, 6" tall

Abbreviations:
K Knit
CO Cast on
BO Bind off
Instructions:
Use the Turkish Cast On technique described in the link below to CO for a total of 72 stitches (36 on each
needle) with Color A. Knit 2 rounds in stockinette stitch (knit every round) and then begin knitting the
Fair Isle stitch pattern illustrated in the chart and described below. Knit the pattern 3 times, and end
after knitting Round 1 of the pattern.

Special techniques used:
Turkish Cast On – Please see this link for an excellent tutorial and photos for the Turkish Cast On method.

Fair Isle (or stranded) Knitting – This is the art of knitting with two colors of yarn on the same row in a
designated stitch pattern to create an overall pattern on your knitted work. Some knitters will hold both
yarns with the same hand, while others prefer to hold a yarn in each hand. For a nice tutorial and photos
on knitting with two colors at the same time, please see these links:

Knitting in the round on two circular needles
– Here’s a great tutorial about knitting with two circular
needles in the round using a different cast on method not used here, but the actual knitting is the same,
so check it out: http://www.az.com/~andrade/knit/twocirculars.html
