free knit baby blanket pattern

- Garter Ridge Blanket

Size: 29" wide x 29" long, approx.
Materials:
7 - 50 gr. balls
Puffin: 4 balls #0105 'buckskin' (A) & 3 balls - #2001 'cocoa blues' (B)
26" or 35" US size 11 Crystal Palace Circular Bamboo or DAISY needle
The pattern is knit of alternating 4 row bands of garter st and St st. There are
other pairs of solid and print Puffin colors that would work well for this
blanket. Click this

Gauge is not crucial with this blanket. It will be approx. 3 sts/inch.
Instructions
Cast on 87 sts.
Work 6 rows of garter st (K all rows) with color A
Begin Ridged Pattern:
Rows 1-4: Using color B work 4 rows in St st (keep the edge 4 sts on each side in garter st - that is,
always K the outer 4 sts on each border).
Rows 5-8: Using color A work 4 rows of garter st (keep the edge 4 sts in
garter st)
Continue working these same 8 rows until you are almost out of color B.
Work the last 6 rows in garter st in color A as you did the beginning of the blanket.
Bind off loosely.
Optional: Tie tassels made with extra Puffin color A to the 4 corners of the blanket or make a fringe with color A. I chose to leave my blanket with plain edges, but I had about 1/2 ball of color A left if I had wanted to make a fringe.
