Note: The cardigan is worked from the neck down. Ch 2 at beg of row
counts as a dc.

Turn. Sleeves: Attach yarn with sl st to space at edge of sleeve. Ch 2, work in
established pattern across sleeve to next corner, dc in corner. Ch 2, turn.
Continue working on these sts only until sleeve measures 5 (6, 7) inches. Fasten
off. Work second sleeve in same manner.
Body: Attach yarn with sl st to top of turning ch, ch 2. Ch 2, turn. Work post sts around post sts, shells in shells, and dc in each dc to first corner, dc in corner sp, skip sts of sleeve, dc in next corner sp, work dc, post sts and shells across back to corner, dc in corner sp, skip sts of sleeve, dc in next corner, work to end. Ch 2, turn. Work as established until piece measures 6 (7, 8) inches. Fasten off.
Front Bands: With right side facing, attach yarn with
sl st to first st at bottom edge of right front. Ch 1, sc in same place, work 2
sc under each turning ch across front, sc in st at end. Ch 1, turn, sc in each
sc to end. Work 2 more rows sc for 18-month size only. Buttonhole row: Ch 1, sc
in same place, and each sc until 19 sc remain to top of neck. (Ch 2, skip 2 sc,
sc in next 6 sc) twice, ch 2, sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Work 2 (4) more rows sc
in same manner, working 2 sc in buttonhole spaces.
Fasten off. Work left front band in same manner, eliminating buttonholes. Do not
cut yarn.
Neck Band: Ch 1, turn. Work sc across top of neck
bands and in each st around neck. Ch 1, turn. Work 2 more rows sc. Fasten off.
Hat
Beginning at top, ch 6, join with sl st to form ring. Ch 1, work
7 sc in ring. Join with sl st to top of beg sc.
1- Ch 2, work 2 dc in ea sc around. Join with sl st to top of beg ch 1.
