This blanket is not finished yet, but it is turning out
nicely and I thought I'd post how to knit it so that others could begin knitting
without waiting for me to finish. It feels wonderfully soft and cozy and has a
halo of angora on the surface.
This began with my wanting to knit a baby blanket with Bunny
Hop that would knit up more quickly than a single strand blanket and be easy to
pick up and work on when watching TV or a Netflix.
First, I tried doubling Bunny
Hop, but the feel was too bulky for what I wanted, so I came up with a
plan to alternate doubled and single strands. It works very well.
Instructions: (blanket is worked
in garter stitch, all rows K)
Cast on 126 sts col. A + col. B held tog (this is the lengthwise direction for
the blanket)
Rows 1-2: K 2 rows color A + col B held tog
Rows 3-4: Drop color B and K 2 rows of col. A
Rows 5-6: K 2 rows of A and B held tog
Rows 7-8: Drop color A and K 2 rows of col. B
Repeat Rows 1 through 8.
Carry the single yarn up the side of the knitting, since it
only travels 2 rows at a time, it will not be noticeable.
I believe I will finish the blanket with 8 balls of Bunny Hop
(4 each color) for a 26" wide blanket. But I may make it wider with 10 balls (5
each).
There are many pairs of colors of Bunny
Hop that would make good combinations:
crystal pink + painted iris
faded jeans + powder blue
teal lake + soft aqua
natural ivory + crystal pink
circus + any of the bright colors
etc. etc.
