Size: Up to 6-9 months – about 15” circumference
Materials: 1 50 gr ball Crystal Palace Bamboozle (55% bamboo, 24% cotton, 21% Elastic Nylon) - shown #9575 'circus'
Size US 7 (4.5 mm) 16” circular Crystal Palace Bamboo, size US 9 (5.5 mm) 16” circular and set of 4 double pointed needles
Gauge: 4 ½ sts = 1” in stockinette stitch on size 9 needles
Abbreviations:
BO: Bind Off
Beg: Beginning
CO: Cast On
K: Knit
K2tog: Knit 2 together
M 1: Make 1
RS: Right Side
Rept: Repeat
Sl: Slip
SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit
St(s): Stitch(es)
St St: Stockinette Stitch – K the right side rows and P the wrong side rows
WS: Wrong Side
YO: Yarn over
Special Abbreviation:
Dbl Dcr: Double Decrease – sl 2 sts together as if to K them together, K
next st, then pass the 2 slipped sts over this st.
Directions:
With smaller circular needle, CO 68 sts. Join into a circle,
being careful not to twist your sts.
Round 1: * K 1, P 1, rept from * to end of round.
Round 2: * P 1, K 1, rept from * to end of round.
Repeat these two rounds until piece measures 1½”.
Change to larger needles and work in St St for 3”.
Shape crown: Change to double pointed needles.
Round 1: * K 7, dbl dcr, K 7, rept from * 3 times more.
Round 2 and all even numbered rounds: K
Round 3: * K 6, dbl dcr, K 6, rept from * 3 times more.
Round 5: * K 5, dbl dcr, K 5, rept from * 3 times more.
Round 7: * K 4, dbl dcr, K 4, rept from * 3 times more.
Round 9: * K 3, dbl dcr, K 3, rept from * 3 times more.
Round 11: * K 2, dbl dcr, K 2, rept from * 3 times more.
Round 13: * K 1, dbl dcr, K 1, rept from * 3 times more.
Round 15: Dbl dcr 4 times – 4 sts remain.
Transfer these sts to one needle and work knitted cord as follows: * K 4 sts. Do
not turn. Slide sts back to other end of needle, draw yarn across back of sts,
and rept from *.
When cord measures 2”, break yarn and draw through all sts. Pull tight and
fasten off. Tie an overhand knot in the cord.
