Inspiration: Baby things are so sweet and fun to make! Tiny, enjoyable ways to try a new yarn, and make a gift for young life. Puffin is an amazingly soft yarn, and a lot of fun to knit.

Materials:
2 - 50 gm balls Puffin in coordinated colors: MC and CC [Colors used in model are MC: 208 - 'baby dots' & CC: 0111-'baby aqua']

Crystal Palace Bamboo DP in size 5 US (or size needed to obtain gauge).

Gauge: 4.5 sts per inch (16/10 cm) over St st.

Size: Infant to ~ 18 mos

Abbreviations:
CO- cast on; dpn- double pointed needles; K- Knit; K2tog - knit 2 sts together; LT - see below; P- Purl; rep - repeat; St st - stockinette stitch; YO - yarn over; PSSO - pass slip st over; rnd(s) - round(s); st(s)- stitch(es); tog - together.

LT: K2tog but do not remove from left needle; now K into the 1st st again; move both sts to right needle. (note this is not a decrease but a twist). The stitch can ALSO be worked by knitting the 2nd st on left needle first, and then knitting the 1st st.

Instructions:
With MC, CO 64 sts. Join, being careful not to twist and place marker. K3 rnds.

Start Mini-Cable Pattern: *(P2, LT), around.
Work Mini-Cable pattern with MC until 1 in from cast – on edge.
Cut MC and join CC. Work in pattern for 1 in.
Cut CC and join MC; work in pattern for 1.25 in.
Cut MC & join CC; work in pattern for 1.25 in.
Cut CC and join MC – start crown.

Crown:
Dec rnd 1: *(K2 tog, K2) around. (48 sts). K around.
Dec rnd 2: *(K2tog, K2) around. (36 sts). K around.
Dec rnd 3: *(K2tog, K2) around (28 sts). K around.
Dec rnd 4: *(K2tog, K2) around (21 sts).

K2tog until down to ~8 sts. Cut yarn leaving an ~8 in end. With a crochet hook, pull the end through each st one-at-a-time, and drop off needle. Pull tautly and bring end to inside.

Finishing: work in all ends. Wash gently.
