Bamboozle
Child’s Cabled Pullover

Description: A lovely cabled
pullover in 5 child sizes. Designed for either boy or girl to wear.
Level: Intermediate
Materials:
7 (8, 9, 10, 12) – 50 gm balls Crystal
Palace Bamboozle
[Bamboozle is a blend of bamboo, cotton and elastic nylon to hold
garment's shape.]

Crystal Palace Bamboo 26” circular needle US sizes 5 & 8 (or size needed
to obtain gauge)
16” circular needle US size 5
Dpn’s US size 8
Stitch markers
Gauge: 5 sts/inch in St st
Sizes: 2 (4, 6, 8, 10)
Finished chest sizes: 26 (28, 30, 32, 34)”
Abbreviations:
BO- bind off; C6F- cable 6 front (place 3 sts on cable needle, hold in front, k
next 3 sts, then k3 from cable needle); CO- cast on; dpn- double pointed
needles; k- Knit; KFB- knit through front and back loop of st to inc one st;
K2tog- knit 2 sts together; m1- make one st by pulling band between st just
knitted and next st, slipping it onto left needle and knitting through the back
loop; p- Purl; rep- repeat; PU- pick up; RS– right side; ssk– slip slip knit; St
st- stockinette stitch (k on the RS and p on the WS); st(s)- stitch(es); tog –
together; WS- wrong side
WT- wrap and turn (on the k side, sl next st on left
needle to right needle, bring yarn to front, place st back on left needle, bring
yarn to back, turn. On the p side, sl next st on left needle to right needle,
bring yarn in back, place st back on right needle, bring yarn to front)
3-needle bind-off:
Hold the pieces together with wrong sides facing out and needles
parallel. Insert the third (working) needle knitwise into the first st on both
needles. K these sts tog and slip off the needles onto the working needle. Do
the same for the next st on both needles. Pass the first st on the working
needle over the second st on the working needle. Continue in this manner until
you have one st left. Cut yarn and thread through last loop.
Instructions:
BACK
With 26” size 5 needle, CO 66 (70, 74, 78, 86) sts.
Row 1 (WS): *p2, k2; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.
Row 2 (RS): *k2, p2; rep from * last 2 sts, k2.
Work these two rows for 1.5 (2, 2, 2, 2)” to form ribbing. End with WS.
Next row (RS): k, increasing 2 (4, 4, 4, 2) sts evenly spaced across row
(use KFB method for inc). [68 (74, 78, 82, 88) sts]
Change to 26” size 8 needle, continue in St st until piece measures 13 (15,
16.5, 18, 19.5)” from cast-on edge. End with WS row.
Shape Shoulders for 3-needle bind-off:
Row 1: k to within 7 (8, 8, 9, 9) sts of end of row, WT.
Row 2: p to within 7 (8, 8, 9, 9) sts of end of row, WT.
Row 3: k to within 7 (8, 8, 9, 9) sts of gap created by WT of previous
row, turn.
Row 4: p to within 7 (8, 8, 9, 9) sts of gap created by WT of previous
row, turn.
Row 5: k to within 7 (7, 9, 8, 9) sts of gap created by WT of previous
row, turn.
Row 6: p to within 7 (7, 9, 8, 9) sts of gap created by WT of previous
row, turn.
Row 7: k to end of row, picking up each wrap and knitting it tog with the
st on the needle, turn.
Row 8: p to end of row, picking up each wrap and purling it tog with the
st on the needle, turn.
Row 9: k.
Row 10: Using dpn’s, p as follows: p21 (23, 23, 25, 27) onto one dpn, p26
(28, 32, 32, 34) sts onto second dpn, p21 (23, 23, 25, 27) sts onto third dpn.
Using the dpn’s as st holders, set aside.
FRONT
Using 26” size 5 circular needle, CO 16 (20, 16, 12, 16) sts,
place marker,
CO 32 (32, 44, 56, 56) sts, place marker, CO 16 (20, 16, 12, 16) sts.
Row 1 (WS): *k2, p2; rep from * to first marker, slip marker, *p2, k4; rep from
* to 2 sts before next marker, p2, slip marker, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.
Row 2 (RS): *p2, k2; rep from * to first marker, slip marker, *k2, p4; rep from
* to 2 sts before next marker, k2, slip marker, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.
Work these two rows for 1.5 (2, 2, 2, 2)” to form ribbing. End with WS.
Change to 26” size 8 needle and continue as follows:
Next Row: k to first marker, increasing 2 (1, 1, 1, 0) sts evenly spaced, slip
marker, *p2, k1, m1, k2, m1, k1, p2, k4; rep from * to 8 sts before next marker,
p2, k1, m1, k2, m1, k1, p2 , slip marker, k to end, increasing 2 (1, 1, 1, 0)
sts evenly spaced..
Next Row: p to marker, *k2, p6, k2, p4; rep from * to 8 sts before marker, k2,
p6, k2, slip marker, p to end. [74 (80, 86, 92, 98) sts total]
Begin Cable Pattern:
Rows 1-6: Work in established pattern, knitting the k sts and purling the p sts.
Row 7: k to marker, slip marker, *p2, CF6, p6; rep from * to 10 sts before
marker, p2, CF6, p2, slip marker, k to end.
Row 8: p the p sts, k the k sts as they face you.
Continue, repeating rows 1-8 until piece measures 8.5 (10, 11, 12, 14)” from
cast-on edge, ending with WS row.
Begin yoke: k to marker, slip marker, *p2, ssk, k2, k2tog, p2, k4; rep
from * to 10 sts before marker, p2, k1, ssk, k2tog, k1, p2, slip marker, k to
end. Continue rib pattern as established (eliminating cables) until piece
measures 13 (15, 16.5, 18, 19.5)” from cast-on edge, ending with WS row. [68
(74, 78, 82, 88) sts total]
Neck Shaping:
Row 1(RS): k26 (29, 31, 32, 34) sts, turn. Leave remaining sts on circular
needle, using it as a holder.
Row 2: Using a dpn, p one row.
Row 3: k to within 3 sts of neck edge, k2tog, k1.
Repeat these last 2 rows until 21 (23, 23, 25, 27) sts remain. Work even until
piece measures same as back at arm edge, ending with RS row.
Shoulder shaping:
Row 1 (WS): p to last 7 (8, 8, 9, 9) sts, WT.
Row 2: k
Row 3: p to 7 (8, 8, 9, 9) sts before gap, WT.
Row 4: k
Row 5: p across row, picking up the wrap and purling it tog with the st on the
needle.
Join this shoulder to back by placing right sides tog and working 3-needle
bind-off.
Neck Shaping (other side):
Next Row: Using dpn, attach yarn and k across 16 (16, 16, 18, 20) sts (center
front). Leave sts on dpn, using it as a holder. Using a second dpn, k across
remaining sts.
Next Row: p to beg of center front, turn.
Next Row: k1, ssk, k to end.
Repeat these last 2 rows until 21 (23, 23, 25, 27) sts remain. Work even until
piece measures same as back at arm edge, ending with WS row.
Shoulder shaping (other side):
Row 1(RS): k to last 7 (8, 8, 9, 9) sts, WT.
Row 2: p
Row 3: k to 7 (8, 8, 9, 9) sts before gap, WT.
Row 4: p
Row 5: k across, picking up wrap and knitting it tog with st on the needle.
Join this shoulder to back using 3-needle bind-off.
SLEEVES
Using 26” size 5 needle, cast on 30 (32, 32, 34, 34) sts. Work in
k2 x p2 ribbing for 1.5 (1.5, 2, 2, 2)” , ending with WS row. Change to 26”
circular size 8 needles.
Row 1 (RS): k, increasing 11 sts (use KFB method) evenly spaced. [41 (43, 43,
45, 45) sts]
Row 2: p
Row 3: k1, KFB in next st, k to last 2 sts, KFB in next st, k1.
Row 4: p one row.
Repeat these last 2 rows until there are 55 sts on needle,
ending with RS row. P one row. Continue in St st, inc one st each side of every
4th row 5 (8, 10, 13, 16) times. [65 (71, 75, 81, 87) sts]
Continue even until sleeve measures 9 (11, 13, 14.5, 16)” from cast-on edge.
BO loosely.
Join sleeves to body, measuring down 6.5 (7, 7.5, 8, 8.5)”
from shoulder seam on front and back for placement. Sew side and underarm seams.
NECK RIBBING
Using 16” circular size 5 needle and beginning at left shoulder,
PU and k18 (18, 22, 21, 24) sts along left side of neck, k across sts on center
front holder, PU and k18 (18, 22, 21, 24) sts along right side of neck, k across
sts on center back, decreasing 0 (2, 2, 2, 0) sts evenly spaced. [78 (78, 90,
90, 102)] Place marker. *k2, p2; rep from * to 4 sts at center front, k4, *p2,
k2; rep from * to 2 sts before marker, p2. Continue in ribbing as established
for 1”. BO loosely in pattern.
